I have a 2005 aUDI A4 3.0 cab and i have noticed over a long period of time a noise coming from the front belt.
I went to have it replaced today but the garage said they didnt have the right tensioner or something so couldnt do the job but he did state he thinks it sounds more of a bearings noise than the belt.

i have done a short video so you can hear the noise -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwgE0a_8vIk&feature=plcp

before i take this to a main dealer and get royally shafted any help would be good as i have done some searching and this does seem a common question however the answers are always different.

I can’t tell much from the video, but if the noise is (or was) intermittent and is most evident at idle, it could be the alternator freewheeling pulley. See VW AUDI Forum - VWAF (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=109463)

Did you find the answer to the problem you posted as I am experiencing the same with my Audi A4 3.0 Conv?

just as a matter of interest, does the noise go away when the air con is switched on?.

Its not the Air con as the noise does not change if on or off and its not the PSP as this has been checked....

I have posted today the problem on general chat..
