power steering on a Golf MK1

Hi guys,

My uncle's got a mk1 golf gti cabriolet. Nice little runner but he wants power steering for it. He's heard that some enthusiasts are retro fitting power steering on the mark 1 using vw polo components because they're compact enough to fit into the mk1 engine bay...

Was just wondering if anyone had any experience in fitting power steering in a mark 1 basically..

That sounds very specialised.

You'd abviously need a suitable rack which could be tricky obtaining the correct mountings to go on the Golf. The pump should be a bit easier with it being a bolt on to the engine, you may need a different carrier bracket though.

I'd look for a hard-core MK1 forum or try the vortex forum for info.
