Hi all I have owned a 2009 A4 B8 3.0 tdi Avant for 6 months now, previous to that I have a 2007 A4 B7 3.0 tdi Avant.......... both great cars :D ...... I was expecting the fuel comsuption to be the same or even slightly better on the B8..... But the B8 is using loads more fuel  No idea why? Theres no leaks or smoke under acceleration... the only thing I found are the engine codes are different. Oh both are 245ps.

Im quite surprised. Mines not too bad..I get on average 450-500 miles out of a tank (I usually wuss-out and refuel before seeing the fuel light). How many miles are you getting out of a tank? and how many miles have you put on the clock? (on the B8).

I'd expect to get slightly better on the B8. The 2007 B7 is 233ps, 2009 B8 is 240ps (latest ones since facelift are 245ps).

Are the cars manual or auto?

I went from a 2006 Auto B7 3.0 TDI to an S-Tronic 2010 3.0 TDI (240). I'm getting about 5% more mpg on the newer car. I averaged 36-38 on the B7 over 30k miles and and now getting 38-42 on the B8. Equates to about 20-30 miles per tank. Some early 2009 cars I think had the normal ZF Auto which is not as efficient as the S-Tronic? Main difference to me was how quick the car gets into top (7th) gear.

The latest 245ps engine looks like its 5% better again on the official figures (and CO2).

Both great cars as you say.

Hi

Just drove my 3.0 V6 TDi S Line Sp Ed Quattro Avant S-tronic (245) (6500Km on the clock) last Friday Folkstone to Forfar 885km on a tank (59.82litre) onboard comp showed 6.6 actual 6.76l/100km (41.8 MPG). Found if set cruise for 1800 RPM 126KMP it seems to be best. Runing at 1950 RPM 130KMP the actual 7.21l/100km, so 4Km/hour difference give quite difference

I usually get about 450 miles from a tank, mostly commuting between Leeds and Harrogate - mixture of city and open road driving. When the car was new it was about 50 miles per tank lower but seems to have settled down now.

Hi guys thanks for all your interest. both of them are manual transmission.
I was averaging about 39 mpg on the B7 3.0 tdi..... 27 mpg on my B8 3.0 tdi...... same driving styles on both cars.

Thanks ... Andy

27 mpg on my B8 3.0 tdi

That sounds way too low to me. My range is typically from 35-45mpg for a traffic-heavy short trip through to a long motorway run cruising at the speed limit. The only time I see below 30 is on very short trips in cold weather / heavy traffic. If I were consistently getting sub-30 I'd be paying a visit to the dealer to see what was up.

Yes my B8 3.0 TDI QSE gets me 42.5 MPG I mainly do longer jouneys like over 35 at a time with Motor way and A Roads, but I don't hang about either, I can reguarly go over 500 miles before the light come on before I brim the tank again lol
