I've been toying with the idea of getting a CatBack exhaust system, But a bit of research has led me to the understanding that CatBack systems don't give you any real advantage other than better sound until you start really going into the Tuning of the car, then you go for Turbo-Back rather than Cat-Back.
Is this true?
If so what i was thinking was...........If its only sound you get, then could i remove the centre Box and get a section made up to replace the pipework, thus giving me increased sound for a fraction of the price. Milltek being nearly £800 and a small section of pipework wouldn't be to much more than £100!!!

Below is a picture of the box i mean.

I take it this isn't something people have done

18 year olds and rednecks have probably done it themselves :)

A proper exhaust place would advise you against it, but if you insist they'd help you out - the drone at motorway speeds get boring, very quickly though and I almost guarantee you'll want it back to stock within a month.

Your Mrs will never get her holiday!

Lol. Cheers.
Looks like I need to get saving. I can get a proflow back box custom built for £240 or a catback system for £420 so think I will go that route

I have the milltek cat-back love the sound of it. Not too loud inside the car but it has a nice deep tone outside the car.

I have spoken to milltek and they have said my exhaust is compatible with your car. I don't know if you want to ring them yourself to double check though

sam.bird3
29-08-2012, 04:34 PM
OK, Thanks. I will ring AMD to Just Confirm this myself. not Cos I do not trust you, Just to be 100% sure my self. If it is the correct exhaust, how do you want to go about payment? Croydon isn't too far away from me so l could collect. if I do collect is it in sections or would I need a Van? Also, is the price negotiable? would You take £350? A Brand new one from AMD(fitted) is £750 I may need a couple of weeks to get the money together, I understand If it goes before then, but If you are in no rush then I will definitely take it off your hands. (providing AMD confirm fitment.)

its still on my car at the moment so im in no rush at all. Not sure if the sections will fit in a car to be honest. so maybe a van would be a good idea. i totally agree on calling and finding out for cirtain if it going to fit there is nothing worse than buying a duff'n you can't fit lol.

Did u have any luck with the fit?

sam.bird3
30-08-2012, 08:50 PM
Yes, spoke to them this morning. The exhaust will fit up to the downpipe, I will then need a different downpipe from the cat to the exhaust, these retail at almost £180 so need to weigh up my options, with your exhaust and the new downpipe the price isn't too far off the price of a brand spanking new one Fitted by AMD

alan_beecham553
30-08-2012, 09:56 PM
That seems a bit expensive to me. It maybe worth gettin a 2nd opinion as they sound like they are trying to sway you towards there new install. Would u like me to ask my milltek dealer how much for a downpipe (even though they did say it would fit). It's knowing who to ask and trust I really don't want u end up with summink that won't fit

Sounds like a good day out, Just googled it, Very good price as well. May have to have a serious think about that, Only problem is none of my mates are really into cars, they are all High Flying City Bods and don't really care too much about the Modded car scene, they think i'm a bit of a child still that I enjoy it all lol. so wouldn't really have any one to go up with, I'll have to Try and see if I can persuade one of them :) I know my Mrs wouldn't want to go, she Hates things like that. lol

If your still interested I've been offered a 10% discount on my new exhaust so I can sell mine for £300

sam.bird3
05-09-2012, 06:32 PM
When do you need to know by? I will search around for a better price for the Downpipe.

alan_beecham553
06-09-2012, 01:32 PM
How much have you been quoted for the downpipe?

sam.bird3
06-09-2012, 01:48 PM
I think it was £180 if I remember correctly. I'll find out for sure.

sam.bird3
06-09-2012, 07:13 PM
£163 for the Downpipe. Then I need to pay to get it fitted as I've had a look today and it's definitely not a job I can do on my own on axle stands.
When do you need a definite answer by? Really want it but need to really way up the cost.

£300 exhaust
£163 Downpipe
£100 Fitting

Its not far off the price of a brand spanking new one with fitting inc. I think it's a great deal but probably better suited to someone with the same model as yours.

Let me have a think.

alan_beecham553
06-09-2012, 09:06 PM
I totally agree, I asked my milltek dealer today how much for the down pipe and he hasn't got back to me yet. He is trying to find out how much the pipe is and he is contacting millteks engineering to find out for deffo if it's needed but the sales and revo have both told him you won't need the pipe. I'm sure he would be cheaper than £163 but let's wait for an answer from milltek first

sam.bird3
12-09-2012, 03:35 PM
Have you heard back yet?

alan_beecham553
12-09-2012, 03:52 PM

sam.bird3

No problem.

alan_beecham553
13-09-2012, 11:04 AM
Milltek have said you deffo will need the different down pipe my milltek dealer has quoted £132.40 inc VAT for the 5 speed pipe. They have them in stock and take 1 to 2 days to deliver

sam.bird3
13-09-2012, 01:21 PM
OK. Cheers. When do you need an answer by? I need to have a good hard think and see if I can come up with that kind of money at the moment.

alan_beecham553
13-09-2012, 05:51 PM
No rush mate but if u could give me answer either way though

sam.bird3

Yes no problem. I'll speak to my mate and ask how much he'll charge to fit it.
