Could you please help with choosing the right gear box oil for my manual 6 gear gearbox. I was told that I can use Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75w-90 which is gl-4, this is cheaper that OEM oil and I would prefer Castrol. After searching the internet for ages couldn't really find anything helpful.
I need to change it as there was a problem with grinding noise while putting into 3rd gear. That happened after forcing 3rd when my clutch died and I ended up on the roundabout (lesson learnt -switch off and pull). Anyway it only happened twice when mechanic took it for a test drive. I presume synchro but now the problem is gone. You save these synchros from wearing I want to change the oil as it has 85k on the clock. Any opinions and advice appreciated. I had a flywheel and clutch replaced.
