I have a 1994 golf driver and on the past few MOTs my mot man has pointed out the rear axle bushes need replacing at some point as they are starting to perish.

Ever keen to keep my car in good service I have bought some new axle bushes, the stock ones which are metal & rubber. Having done smaller versions of these bushes on something else I know they are right bugger to press in/out.

So with an upgrade in mind, I wondered if it would be possible to fit a mk2 golf 16v axle(the one with 4 stud discs) to my golf? that way i could get the 16v axle clean it up, replace the bushes and have the whole thing prepped and ready to just wheel under the car when i unbolt the old one, rather than having the trouble of the bushes not playing ball and my car being in bits for weeks?

any ideas?
