Gearbox whine in 3rd when accelerating

I've recently noticed a gearbox whine on my Sport 140 TDI BMT when accelerating hard in 3rd gear. It becomes pronounced at about 2800 revs and it doesn't matter whether the engine is hot or cold, its still there. My dealer is investigating but I wondered if anybody else has this problem.

Car mileage is currently 13K

Update.

The car is in the dealer workshop today to have the gearbox dismantled and 3rd gear assembly replaced.

Hi, Don't have the problem myself, how'd you get on with it ? What sort of mileage is on the car ?

Everything is now fine. All 3rd gear components have been replaced and the gearbox rebuilt. The car has 17K on the clock and the whine has been with it since new but gradually got louder until the dealer agreed that it needed fixing.
