Hi all, just a couple of questions about my polo tdi, recently it's developed what I can only describe as light rattling noise somewhere near the front, it sounds like maybe a bit of trim somewhere but I really don't know for sure, it's driving me mad though, guess I could just turn the stereo up instead :o

About a week ago it also felt like it lost power and I think the engine light came on at the same time, I pulled over and turned it off, started it up and everything seems fine again now, there are no lights on but i'm sure it takes a bit longer to start sometimes, is there anything that might cause this to happen on these cars or does it really need plugging in to see if there are any faults :1zhelp:

Once again any help much appreciated, thanks

The rattle may be the vw badge on the plastic engine cover at a guess.

Lack of power will need to get the fault code read as the engine light came on - could be a few things turbo/boost related so worth getting a dealer/specialist to look at it.

Great, thanks, i'll check out the VW badge on the engine cover, it does sound like something plastic rattling and vibrating, as for the engine problem, will it do any harm to leave it as it seems to be driving fine at the moment with no lights on, i'm really busy at work and finding some spare time to get it sorted is difficult for me, i don't want to leave it if it's going to do any harm though :Blush2:

Right been outside and opened the bonnet :o started the car up and pushed around on the engine cover and badge, nothing seemed to be rattling so I'm guessing this probably isn't the noise i'm getting, now i've listened again it sounds more like it's under the car and more so when driving along

It might be worth booking your car into a VW dealer for a free express visual check - this will point out anything obvious and may give you some answers potentially.

I don't know if this is relevant but some exhausts have a heatshield.
On golfs and TT'S these are known to come loose and rattle
