Hi all,
I have a MK1 Golf Cabriolet, 1988, Karmann(if it makes a difference)
Randomly when driving there is a kind of.. buzzing(whirring, hissing, its hard to describe) coming from behind the dash, where the clocks are, any ideas as to what this could be? a dodgy relay or something behind there?
Thanks in advance.

your relays are located underneath the glove compartment in the passenger foot well so it could be that. Not away of anything behind the dash that would make it buzz

my Karmann has a noisy fuel pump and it does sound like its coming from the front until you get out and you can hear its underneath. I assume its to do with the way sound travels in the car and off the bulkhead.

Is there a vacuum pipe attached to the cluster?

Thanks for the replies, my noise randomly stopped, but it was definately behind the dash, im wondering if its linked to my oil temp gauge that works whenever it wants.
