View Full Version : Canbus Friendly Number Plate Bulbs
I have just changed my number plates light units
reason being I had LED bulbs in but they were a bit long, 1 of them had broken the lamp holder part.
anyone recommend proper size error free lamps.
I dont really want to buy from 3 or 4 places trying to track down a correct lamp....
Cheers

No, had them well over 2 Months now and no warnings at all. I'm well pleased with them. Definitely worth getting from him, I think he is doing interior ones too.

Thanks for the positive feedback, Sam. Glad you happy with little creation of mine :beerchug:
I think Chris has genuine A6 C7 LED number plate lamps fitted to both his cars. If they are a standard size, they may fit your B6 too George?
I will be in your area Tuesday night if you want to measure them?

It's true I do - intact I think they're off the new gen A8
A4 lad fitted them to his B7 A4 but he needed a small resistor when they were fitted - they fitted both my cars without problem and are still burning strong.

The fitment prongs for the LEDs are the same as below

No problem Ruslan, I'm glad that someone is actually making a good product and not the usual cheap rubbish off ebay that just doesn't last

Audi's own LED's plus a resistor? ;)

Not really Chris.
Don't want to add resistors, I have had LED's with built-in resistors before in the number plate lights.
I will have to look for something similar..

Sad to hear they don't work on your car. That makes me think that Sam's car doesn't monitor number plate lights.
kite, can't PM you, you mail box is full. Let me know what you want to do with lights
I'll reply to your PM.

I was a bit puzzled about this. I have a 2003 B6 Avant with highline but it definately does not monitor the numberplate bulbs as evidenced by the fact that I drove around with one out for six months (put off changing them due to knackered screws), and then with both out for a week. Never got a bulb warning about them. It monitors the other bulbs, just not the numberplate.

The car monitors the number plate lights under the Cold Diagnosis - this can be switched off in vcds on some models.
If memory serves me right it found in the Central Convenience module - usually 46.

No thanks - already got them! After discovering that some twerp at Audi decided that steel screws into an alloy cast would be a good idea (!) I decided that I wasn't going down that route again and made my own up.
