I'm doing a conversion on my 2007 Audi A4 Avant Quattro with 6spd manual transmission. The car originaly had a 2.0T FSI engine and I have converted it to a 2.0TDI. The ECU I'm using is has a Part# 03G 906 016 KM and is used for the BPW engine code. VCDS does not have the label files for this ECU so I'm not able to set the coding or adaption.

Anyone out there have the same engine in there car that can read there coding settings for me?
Ideally it's the same car/ECU# but I think if it ends in KN (Auto) is should be fine also. At least a starting point.
I've already done a scan on the car and sent it to VCDS but it sounds like it could be a while before I get some info.
I don't want this to hold up my conversion.

Sorry I can't help but I cant not ask why did you put a TDi engine in?

TDI's in North America are very limit. For Audi the only TDIs avaliable are in the A3 or Q7... That's it.
My top reasons to do the conversion are:

TDIs get better fuel economy
TDI engines last longer
TDIs are more "drivable" (torque where you need it)
It's a kewl project in North America because you can't buy it.

Why not just buy a A3 Sportback TDi and save on the hassle and expense?

What engine code is the TDi?

The ECU I'm using is has a Part# 03G 906 016 KM and is used for the BPW engine code.

If he's matched ECU to engine then BPW is a 2.0TDI 140HP 103KW maybe a PD diesel...

Luv your project :bigok:
You got a thread on a US forum concerning your conversion then demon_diesel?? would luv to read it :)

A3 Sportback vs A4 Avant on chassis not comparable.... wish I had the confidence to do a project like that...

My hat's off to you demon_diesel :You_Rock_

Would PM but as you can't reply I had to post... :)

What engine code is the TDi?

The only A3 TDI's here are FWD and I could probably build 2 A4 TDIs for the price of a used A3 TDI here. I know it sounds like a crazy project but it is what it is. No turning back now!

The TDI engine code is a BPW. Technically it is a BHW but i've converted it over to be a BPW with BPW ECU and harness which is what was used on the B7s.

No one with VCDS own one of these?

Thanks!
As A6_Chris has posted I do have a thread with the conversion. I started researching this for some time now (2 years) even before I owned the car. TDI's model selection is very limited here and I've only owned diesels since I started driving. It's hard to go to gasoline.

You are correct. The engine i'm working with is a "BPW" which is a 2.0L PD 8v 140HP. Well technically i'm using a BHW which was avaliable here in North America in the Passat B5.5s only with an Auto transmission. It is also a 2.0L PD 8v and here it is ~134HP. It's basically the exact same engine with some minor changes. Over here it only had a catalytic converter and no DPF. Emissions standards are a little different here. Where I am diesels only go through a visual inspection. Because of this I could likely remove DPF (if it had), catalytic converter, and EGR! Because I don't want to purchase a 1000+ Euro DPF I will not be using a DPF. Also because I would like to get the engine closer to the stock 2.0T FSI engine power range (~200HP). I think a simple DPF-delete and tune could get me to ~175HP. Add a turbo and that will likely bring me to 210+HP. For now I just want to get it running with the stock BPW ECU and harness.

My tuner was able to "convert" the Passat BHW ECU to an Audi A4 BPW ECU with the BPW code. Unfortunately I have VCDS to "code" and "adaption" the ECU but VCDS does not have any of the label files for this ECU so I don't know what any of the codeing/adaption options are. This is why I'm looking for someone in Europe that has a BPW and VCDS to simply tell me what there coding is set too. Adaption options would be good also.

I will definately have more things to do after this but I do need this to keep the project moving even though the engine does run as it sits.

Any help would be appreciated.

basic settings

Basic setting for 2.0l TDI (BPW,BRC) in A4
as at 07.07.04

KNote:
To start the "Basic setting" function from Guided
Fault Finding:
1) Press mode button
2) Choose "Vehicle self-diagnosis" menu option
3) Choose "01-Engine electronics I" menu option
4) Select "04-Basic setting" and then the
number of the display group (e.g. 003 for exhaust gas recirculation)
All values given relate to measurements on the warmed-up
engine (coolant temperature >75°C) and at sea level. All consumers
should be switched off prior to measuring.

003 Basic setting: Exhaust gas recirculation
1) Start engine
2) Start basic setting
3) Engine speed idling
KNote:
The exhaust gas recirculation is now switched
on and off intermittently.
The difference from ARF_actual between EGR active and
EGR n.active must be at least 100 mg per stroke

011 Basic setting: Turbochargers
1) Start engine
2) Start basic setting
3) Engine speed idling
KNote:
The turbocharger is now activated alternatingly at duty cycles
of 0...10 % and 90...100 %.
In this, the difference in the value 3 (actual charge pressure)
between CPC n.active and CPC active must be at least 80 mbar.
The engine speed is automatically increased.

035 Basic setting: Fuel supply pump
1) Start basic setting
KNote:
The electric fuel pump is then switched
ON/OFF intermittently. The noise of the pump may be perceptible
by touching the tank or may be quietly audible.
(IMPORTANT! There must be no open fuel supply lines!)

050 Basic setting: Compression test
KNote:
Application of this basic setting is only described in Guided
Fault Finding, as in this compression test
different algorithms are necessary for analysis.

063 Basic setting: Adapting kickdown point
(only for vehicles with automatic gearbox)
1) Ignition on
2) Start basic setting
3) Follow the instructions:
- First leave accelerator pedal in rest position (accelerator pedal)
- then press down accelerator pedal fully (press accelerator pedal)
4) Wait for status ADP.OK to be displayed, then
adaption is OK
5) Value is only stored in engine control unit after
approx. 5 seconds ignition OFF.
(Ignition must not be switched on again during this time!!!)

your lucky you found this forum mate lol

a8 tech thank you for the valuable info.
The only question I have now is there a list of the "Adaption" settings available?

You're right this forum rocks!!! It seems finding info on software/CANbus is rare.
I wish someone had a list of all the CAN ID's and data bytes. I've put some together but it's definately no where near complete.

adaptations is covered in basic setting other than that only idle speed is adjustable without using map files for egr etc

I don't know if this this the thread for it ... :)

After all the learning/experience gained from forum and meeting like minded people even if in web world ... :)

I wish I could have used a sponser for work to support forum but has not been viable, so I think tonight I will do a small donation instead ... :)

And this one is in the name of A8 Tech:You_Rock_

And this is not to say others are not making/helping, as a forum is a collective... :)

a8 tech do you know specifics on how the pedal sensor is checked in code?
This is the error I'm getting:
000550 - Throttle Pedal Position Sensor (G79)
P0226 - 000 - Implausible Signal - MIL ON
Everything I've read says that G79 is Sensor 1 and G185 is Sensor 2. If anything my Sensor 2 (G185) may be out of range showing 0.608V at 0%.
Thoughts?

Also anyone out there have a 03G 906 016 KM EEPROM File?
You can copy this file with VAGDashCAN V5.17.
I need this file because right now I have a 03G 906 016 KN EEPROM file and it's not the right one. As far as I know the difference is the KN is used in a Front Drive and the KM is Quattro. Not sure what the actual difference in the files are because even my KN EEPROM file accepted the coding for Quattro (0 0 X 0 1 X X : Four-wheel drive).

Anyone know where I can get one of these files?

Will the sgo file work with VAGDashCAN V5.17?
I'll have to see if I can download the CD or purchase it from somewhere.

Can't PM back yet... One more post to go after this one. :)

It might but vag can pro can flash I use vas pc but only to update as it will not allow you to clone the eeprom also with immo 3a the dash to ecu matching may require you to turn the immo off

I have an ECU right now that has the wrong EEPROM file in it. 03G 906 016 KN and I need to change it to 036 906 016 KM. If I can get this file from the 4H0 906 961 S or 4E0 906 961 AE CD-ROM then I would update it and then use VAGDashCAN to disable the IMMO.

Where can I purchase VAG CAN PRO?
Sounds like this is what I would need to write the sgo file to EEPROM.

After some research and contacting the supplier... It looks like the VAG CAN PRO can read/write EEPROMs but only to EDC15 ECUs and not yet EDC16. The EDC16 read/write function should be released soon but for now this won't work for me.
The .sgo file sounds good but I won't have a way to write it.

Ideally I need someone with VAGDashCAN V5.17 and has access to an Audi A4 2.0 TDI (B7) Quattro Manual with BPW engine code (ECU# 03G 906 016 KM) to simply do a EEPROM READ from the ECU and send me the .bin file.
If someone has the file on hand, even better.

Thanks, It seems the the 016KM ECU is rare. Basically not many PD140 8v quattros out there.

Does anyone have the ABS (ESP) adaption/coding for the B7s?
I'm gettting error codes related to the engine swap.
