I picked up my first Audi, my first auto box and first car with stop/start last week; so I have a slight learning curve ahead of me.

What's puzzling me at the moment, is how do you use stop/start to improve your tree hugging credentials, yet be curteous to drivers behind you at traffic lights and not shine eye level brake lights at them for 2-3 minutes? In a manual without stop/start; no problem, handbrake on, knock it into neutral. If I try the same in this car, the act of putting on the handrake restarts the engine.

What am I doing wrong?

Stick it in park and then you can take your foot off the brake

Thanks, will try again but I could have sworn as soon as I moved it out of drive the engine restarted.

Maybe I was engaging handbrake before putting it into park.

Try keeping your foot on the brake whilst putting it in Park

You were correct.

If I keep my foot on brake and don't touch handbrake, I can put it in park and then release foot brake without engine restarting.

Thanks again.
