Hi
I am now on my third Audi A4 tdi, my current and favourite one is a 55 plate 2.0 tdi 140 S-Line.
My question is simple, I have always used Mobile 1 fully sync turbo diesel oil, SAE 0-40. It is VW Audi spec and I change it every 12 months with between 6 and 8K miles.
I have read that the oil should be SAE 5 -30 but I assume thats for long life changes, due to the quality of oil and the milEage that I change it I can't see an issue, or am I mssing something
Regards for any comments

Mobil 1 Turbo diesel 0w 40 is not approved or recommended to VW/Audi specification. Mobil 1 ESP is.
VW504/507 specification and 5w 30 weight is the required oil, and Mobil 1 ESP meets this. That or Shell Helix Ultra AV-L would be my choice.

INMHO the Mobil #1 esp is the better oil to use . Just because it's a long life oil spec doen't mean you can't use on fixed service intervals. This 504/507 spec oil is a low ash spec oil which is better for turbos.

Many thanks for the replys, I have bought 5L of Mobil 1 ESP 5/30 and will stick with this even though I change the oil every 12 months always with less than 8K miles.

Just for your info I have 188k on the clock and I service my car at 12 months 18 k intervals never had a problem ! I think 8k is a bit early IMHO !

Puresilk I agree 8K is a bit premature however I stick to my old rule of a service evey 12 months irrespective of milage. 5Ltrs of oil and a filter is a small price to pay for fresh engine blood annually !
Mind you I have only done 3,528 miles this year, raises the question do I realy need a car !

I agree with you ihs61 - I've always changed engine oil and filter annually regardless of mileage. If nothing else, it's a good selling point when you come to sell.
