A3 wipers erratic behaviour

Hi,
I've got a 2005 A3 SE FSI and am having trouble with the wipers, they sometimes just stop half way through a wipe! and no matter what wiper mode I put them in, they just won't budge until I restart the car.
Do you think it's to do with the wiper relay? Is this something I can replace myself?
It has rain sensors by the way.

You need a fault code scan .. Im assuming dying wiper motor but I could be wrong ..

Was hoping I could avoid taking it to a garage, haven't found one that I trust in London yet!
