I had one extra bluetooth unit left so whilst testing the unit worked it got me thinking

Will and how can I use factory bluetooth with concert radio and no multi function steering wheel

So I wired the bt in coded it found the connection with bt on and found you can dial out and receive calls through the handset (iphone 3gs)

So I have a dension ipod kit fitted to charge the iphone and set the settings for handset

Mounted the iphone on the dash and simply use the phones button to answer and receive calls

The dis shows phone and numbers dialled/incoming

Just never considered it (stupid boy)

Bt stays spot on and the gsm seems fine so may as well leave it in

Well blow me

I never considered it and written it off as the options below didn't make economic sense

1. Not advisable, retro fit b7 mfsw (air bag activation dual deploy for b7 and single for b6)
2. Retro fit rnse and use the rnse button to dial and receive calls (to tight to pay for rnse)
3 Parrot ugly button

I can now flash the bt unit to update the software as well (8p0 index A unit) still works well with latest iphone software

I made my own loom as well for this set up using oem wiring but as you can not purchase the mic wiring from vag I bought some screened wiring from maplins and it works a treat.

parts required

bt 54 pin multi plug connector 4e0 972 144

oem wire set (you need two bags) 000 979 010 e

screened wiring for the mic maplins http://www.maplin.co.uk/twin-individually-screened-audio-cable-134 I used 2.5 metres routing from the bt unit to the interior light unit

microphone 8L1 862 373A http://www.autoteileltd.com/product_images/o/239/audimic__25156_zoom.jpg cut the connector off and solder to the screened loom

you can check the polarity via output test with vcds to double check it

different colour wire to run from the bt unit to the radio (maplins) ie red for live black for earth

don't forget to twist the can wires the full length of the loom and join like http://www.my-gti.com/wp-content/uploads/canbus_repair_n97-0261.gif to the radio can wires

bluetooth aerial 8p0 035 503m

cloth wiring loom tape and insulation/heat shrink tubing

in line 10 amp fuse for the 30 feed (optional) http://www.maplin.co.uk/water-resistant-maxi-fuse-holder-30444

if you dont fancy making the loom look here

Very smart - good idea about the iPod lead too!

You probably know this but your BT module firmware is the lowest of the low being a 8P0 A module ;)

What are you updating it to?

Yes it was a mistaken order from ebay so I have now shifted the 8p1 units and couldn't fit this unit without the problem of customer satisfaction so pondering what to do with it I fitted it to mine

I can flash the unit to a higher sw version and will do next week

I have found the bluetooth stays connected all the time so for my needs this control unit is fine and only £75 its brand new to lol

Loom cost me £10 to make as well and I had a spare mic from a previous tt retro fit (tt uses the barrel mic) so as I had a surplus flat type mic and sourced some screened wiring from maplins then using my spare wiring connectors I made the loom up and wacked it in

I reckon I can now make the looms for around £18 so it brings the parts cost down again for retro fits kufatec looms are 35 euro plus postage

mics are around £30 and the 8p1 units (latest) around £180 still around the same cost as car systems but buying the control units in bulk gets it down to £160

Its surprising as the control units are £320 from audi so how car systems (ebay shop) can supply so cheap is beyond me but I have never had a bad unit yet

so total cost for bluetooth and ipod music player

total cost

phone lets say £120 (depends but on average £250) but actually only cost me £85 as I had all the wiring and multi pin plugs

ipod second hand dension 100 £15 (should be £120) it was advertised as a skoda dension unit on ebay but there all the same so it was a steal

ipod 12volt to 5 volt converter £6.99

so i can listen to my ipod and charge it plus make and receive calls

My first Audi module was a D but it was flashed to AA permanently so I couldn't change any coding which was bad cos I couldn't change the woman's voice from German to English grr so sent it back and got a proper AA module and it's working fine.

I had a fun time putting the loom in - thankfully it was plug and play with the quadlock but just had to run the mic upto the overhead light and I didnt realise the bulb holder had to be taken off to so I spent an hour trying to route the wire so it didn't get squashed but then I realised the holder actually came off .. Doh!!

Retrofitting is fun ;)

Bet you're a happy man now after all that?

I'd love a lead in my armrest to charge my phone but don't wanna be splicing wires when the car is still under warranty - you know how strict your warranty department is with modifications ;)

Any more mods planned? And get your wallet out for a RNSE ;)

warranty

only affected components caused by consequential damage would be considered as a rejection so go for it

if the ipod lead some how blew the radio and it could be proven then it would be rejected (unlikely and unheard of)

Told you to tight for rnse lol

Ok cool, thanks for that.

I thought any modification at all would invalidate it - its only the cigarette lighter wires anyway to provide the power for the charger lead.

Would love an AMI lead for the a6 in the armrest but I can dream on.

Tight git, you must be on a 'higher' salary than the rest and you won't even splash out £400 - you're as bad as my wife with money!

Is your ami 3g or 2g ?

Techs wages lol hence my weekends are always busy although the wife says its more of a hobby at the weekends and i don't disagree

I love doing retro fits at home

Ami is 2g

Haha still, the rnse would be worth it, get rid of that ugly single din radio in the process

Me too, im always up for a challenge, would love mmi 3g in the car but again, im dreaming

Never mind I have a spare mmi 3g ami retro lead kit that would easily reach the arm rest

You could buy the mmi 2g bluetooth dongle for ami and then tap into the original cig lighter loom fit another cig lighter socket onto the loom and then hard wire your usb port charger into the cig lighter and insulate then route the ipod cable to the arm rest and cover it all up.

This would allow you to use the cig lighter for other things and have a permanently charging circuit for your ipod whilst streaming music

ipod is 5 volt so it shouldn't over load the circuit

I don't remember if using a2dp still allows the phone to function at the same time

Yea was looking at the ad2p dongle so might buy that then do what you say with the usb port.

it allows me on the fiscon to use ad2p and still use functions on the phone so i assume itll be fine.

thanks for the info about the warranty and leads will look into this this week ;)

Forget that - I wont be able to connect to both ami bluetooth and car bluetooth at the same time, the fiscon has both in the same connection so thinking wrong

Hi,

I am new to the forum (and my 2004 A3 8P). I would like a decent bluetooth setup, hopefully non-intusive and with minimal cosmetic mods.

I saw your post where you used an OEM BT module to do this, without MFSW. This sounds like a good option, but I am not very good with electronics. It would help me out a lot if you could answer a few quick questions.

Did you manage to voice dial using this setup? Not sure without the MFSW.
Does anything show in the DIS?
Does it matter which BT module I use? (this is the most confusing part for me, such as part numbers etc.)
Is there a dedicated port in the back of the Concert II single DIN HU for the cable harness? Could I fit aftermarket CD changer at the same time?
Are the only parts I need... BT module, harness, microphone?

Alternatively, do you know of any other options for me to retrofit bluetooth to my car. I have looked up RNS-E and it is too expensive for me!

Sorry for all the questions, hoping you can help me out.
Thanks,
Rich

Thanks for the quick reply. I had a look through your guide, good work! This guide is using MFSW and Double Din HU. Would everything else still apply to my single DIN Concert HU without MFSW as described in this topic? Sorry if this is a silly question, but it feels like a lot of money to spend if I get it wrong.

For example, would this work? I have an A3 2004 (54 reg) Audi Bluetooth Module - 8P0 862 335 D | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-Bluetooth-Module-8P0-862-335-D-/140957465980?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item20d1b83d7c)

Cheers,
Rich

The guide I posted won't work with single din radios unfortunately so the link you provided is incorrect.

im not aware of any oem bt kits for the single din so you may have to get a parrot or similar.

someone else may have info on that though.
