I just finished swearing at a AUB engine in this Skoda I am working on.

Hole in the bottom rod snapped by shell link and went through :confused: don't know how? when? why? and I need a cost effective solution.

So tell me cause there is no clear logic to follow the part number or the cylinder/piston/sump combined is 036 103 101 AL, now, apart from some letters at the end of the part numbers, all these engines have the same first 9 digits - AUB, BCB, BCA, AHW, AUS, AZD, ATN, AQQ, AUD, ANW, AKK, ALD, ANV, AUL plus there are more.

What I want to know is apart from power are all the bottoms and heads the same?

From my measurements they seem the same, I notice that there are slight modifications (eg. shell bearings) but the parts seems interchangeable. eg. AXP 1.4/1.6 16v(golf) parts fits the AUB 1.4 16v(skoda). I noticed that the head on the damage engine says 036 103 373AF, can't see that part number on vagcat.

Anyway if the top and bottom (cylinder and cylinder head) are the same then I will just get a bare replacement of any of the other code and put the AUB bits back on including the clutch, manifolds, sensors etc.

So help me clear the confusion once and for all and if possible and explanation of these parts codes, what's with the letters?
