View Full Version : Mileage - someone must be stacking them on

Following on from the running in topic - all the C7's must still be quite new, can I ask for people with high mileage to report on how they are going, and whether the long life service interval does get to 19,000 miles.

Hopefully someone is doing a ridiculous mileage and can give us all confidence!

Cheers

Jon

In an A7 I'm on track for 18,800 so almost spot on...

What is the service schedule out of interest? 19k miles or how long time wise?

19k or 2 years.

Far better sticking to the 10k/1 year interval IMO.

Why? My pattern exactly matches the 19k criteria.

I wouldn't want the same oil circulating my engine for 20k or 2 years.

Surely if Audi are wiling to sell me a 5 year warranty they must be reasonably confident in their schemes and methodologies?

I have always wondered about this, Porsche are the same 20k interval in a stressed high performance engine. Not sure if they are answering to customer requirements for lower service costs, comfortable in their testing of long life oils or hoping to get lots of repair work outside the 3yr warranty....you can take your pick on this one.

Friend of mine has a 2.0 TDi C7 A6 Avant S-Line - got it September 2011 now on 23,000 miles first service bang on schedule just after 19,000 and has had new front tyres as his is front wheel drive.

He does a load of miles and practically lives in the thing - says it hasn't missed a beat.

Anyone gone further than 23,000?

I decided on fixed service internals of 10,000 miles or 9,300 to be exact. I have now done 19,000, so due a service next month.

But how much fresh oil are you adding in this time?
The filter will remove all of the solids.

I don't know because I've only had my car on fixed intervals.

Once again, this is all about gut feel, old-fashioned views, and whether or not you trust the manufacturer. Without tribological evidence, preferably from a number of engines, all is guesswork. Personally - I'm happy with longlife services.

I ride a motorbike. My previous bike, an 800cc V4, was a reasonably highly-stressed unit, as are many bikes, and certainly as compared to cars. Revving to nearly 12K, producing a bit over 100BHP, etc. Official service intervals for that were 8K miles, as recommended quite unambiguously by Honda. But all dealers and many, many owners swore by a max of 4K for oil and filter change. My bike did 80K miles in the 6 years I owned it, and when I sold it the fuel consumption was as good as it ever was, and it was still not using any oil between those 8K changes. OK, only one data point, no internal examination to back up my observations, and I have no idea if it was producing as much power as it did when new as I had no way of testing. But it reassured me that maybe the manufacturer did know something about their engines.

So you have never added any?
My A3 would only start to use oil when it was getting close to a change, usually at 18500.
So maybe a top up with 15000 miles gone. But hard work with a caravan on always reduced consumption immediately, and made the engine much more responsive and better economy.
Also use millers diesel plus or whatever they call it now, every now and again.

Just discovered that my Audi Centre has ticked 'Audi Inspection Service’ in the service schedule manual, under Delivery Inspection. Checking on the DIS, it is stating that an Oil Change Service is required at 9000 miles and full service at 18,000 miles. Having told them my annual mileage was 15K I would have expected the ‘Audi LongLife Service’ schedule to have been set, so not requiring the first service until around 18K, although an oil change at 9,000 miles might be prudent for a new car. Any views?
