Hi folks,
Wife got her new Passat Estate SE last Wednesday and we are very happy with it. One thing however does seem to be a bit daft. We had the parking sensors fitted as an option and they appear to be quite good and easy to relate the display to actual distances. The problem is that every time she goes to park near a wall, or another car the sensors have to be physically switched on. They switch off automatically once the car is moving at 10mph. Is there any way to change the default setting to switch them on when travelling at less than 10mph. Our last car (Honda CRV EX) had sensors that were basically on all the time, no need to keep switching them on when parking. Wife is not bad at parking but they do help judge the distance very well and the car is about 10 or 12 inches longer than the Honda.
Any ideas folks?

Dave.

Are the sensors a factory fitted option - are they both front and back? If they're factory fitted then both front and back will switch on when you select reverse. However, if you drive forward (say into a parking space without reversing first) then the front sensors have to be switched on manually. The idea is to prevent the front sensors being activated in slow moving or stop/start traffic.

Hi bertj,
yes the sensors are factory fitted option and are front and back. Will have to try the ''reverse'' trick when in a parking space. The car is the wifes (through Motability) so she is the main driver. In our CRV they were very handy being ''on all the time'' as when sitting in a space at the supermarkets or even on the street, if someone got to close with a trolley or kids on bikes, the sensors detected them and let us know. We are very careful with our cars and do all we can to look after them and prevent any damage. As it is a Motability car, we really appreciate the fact that we can get a new car every 3 years and therefore try to look after it as best we can. Would rather have the wifes health back, but we cant do anything for that.
Thanks again, Dave.
