Saw online that there were new Audi LED numberplate lights being supplied with the new A7, so went online and found someone who fitted these to his 2012 A3 and the dash threw an error so he had them up for sale.

They fit upto MY2009 which my A3 is without error so I was very fast to get my hands on them.

Part number if anyone is interested

LHS - 4H0 943 021 £9.58
RHS - 4H0 943 022 £9.58

Will get a darker shot later on ;)

Would be interested to see night pictures. Would they fit an A4 B7 ?

Will get nights shots later and I will remove them and take an actual pic of the connector after it stops raining ;)

The connectors just look exactly the same as what was removed and they are the exact same as my A6's too so I cant see why not ;)

For A4 Lad and anyone else who wants to see, heres some nighttime shots :)

I will take them out tomorrow and photograph the connectors, but they look 99% the same as the originals I took out.

Some nighttime shots as promised

They have a nice glow against the Ice Silver, not too bright either, just nice. Brings the rear of the car up to date along with the LED taillights :)

Very pleased!!!

Does anyone know anywhere I can get good quality, legal number plates without any text at all at the bottom?

Dont worry about taking them out Chris. Take pictures of the ones that you took out if possible. Do they have the 2 springy metal contacts that touch the contact plates on the car ?
They look awesome by the way lol :)
Bigs thumbs up from me !

PS - acoording to the revised law of number plates in 2011 ( or so ) as far as I am aware, any legal number plate has to have the postcode that they were made printed at the bottom so they can be traced. So, any plate without a postcode, is a sick bird ;)
I got my plates from here though ( with my own personal message ) that make "legal sized font" plates with or without anything at the bottom

I dont mind the postcode being there, its just the rest of the garbage I don't like ;)

The prongs are in the same position as the LED version so I can't see why they wouldn't fit .. Gonna try in my A6 tomorrow :)

If your getting them from a local supplier legally, you will need one form of photo ID and your V5 tax book.
They look the exact same as my own.
TPS on Monday :D
Thanks Chris !

I have stripped everything dealer related off the cars and just never got round to doing the plates! Will get em done Monday.

No problem, they should fit! You'll have to get screws for them too, I think they're around 30p-ish a side.

Make sure the screw is pretty tight so a good solid contact can be made.

Get pictures up when you get them!

I need the screws for sure as I know that mine are badly chewed up.

I rounded the ones on my A6 when replacing a unit that fell out and had to buy new ones and force the rounded ones out. Tight little buggers they were.

A3s were a doddle, took in and out with ease.

These are a must have ;)

Did you buy them from TPS? If you did, did they work? ;)

Forgot all about it till after 6 tonight :( Im raging because I spoke to them about 4 times today regarding other stuff and I am sure that they need to be ordered in. Im getting a few deliveries from the tomorrow so I will ring in the morning and see if they have them or get them ordered in for Wednesday

Ah, no good.

They shouldnt take long to order in according to others, seen another A3 same as mine this evening and the difference they make is immense compared to the halogen bulbs.

Never got round to trying them in the A6 yet as intermittent downpours put me off!

Ok, they came off back order and I got them fitted today. They do fit the B7 A4 perfect and light up great. They do show a fault on the dash saying a bulb is out though :( I just connected my resistors that I already had from my old number plate LEDs and the problem was solved.

Great little thread A6 Chris, i prefer OEM if i can get it so i'll be getting some for my B7 A4 although i'm a mechanic i'm not great at electrics so a bit of advise regarding resistors would be great. :)

gizmo on my other thread needed resistors on his tt and superb so he could be another candidate to ask

Ahh.. this is interesting. I really like the OEM LED look versus the Ebay/HongKong/DealExtreme too bright LEDs. I do have stock LEDs on the bimmer, and it just has that perfect crisp LED light without being too bright.

What about the resistors for the B7s, is it a "bolt on" thingie, or do I have to order x Ohm resistors and solder them in series with the LED? How many Ohm resistors are you using?

Price hike due to high demand - £16.50 a side compared to the £9 a side when I got mine.

Still worth it though! IMO!

I have a resistor at home :-) if anyone is interested pm me I will send it. You only need 1 resistor, I think you only need to tap into the purple wire and the black wire I'm sure a4 lad will correct me if I'm wrong

Prices have been raising loads in recent times on allot of parts, not by small percentages either, some I've seen go up by 30-40% unreal but guess in a world where we're eating resources, we have to understand the cost.

Ive just put some aftermarket LED on my new S3 2011, and I'm getting an error reg plate bulb out indicator, what resistor did you use? And where does it go? Thanks

Hello mate, you need to purchase item number: 251195654244 on eBay which is a 10 ohm resistor which you connect onto the wiring using scotch connectors, no physical cutting I believe has to be taken place. The instructions are in the description if you have any issues. It's only £6 an to stop that blinking indicator its a god send!

As shown, they work fine on my 2008 A6 in the other thread. Did you try bending the contact legs?

they work fine in my 2007 A6, you didnt have your lights on when you changed them did you? this may have thrown up the fault and the led isnt drawing enough to clear the fault.

You can disable the cold diagnosis with vcds on the number plate lights for my2010+ onwards cars

That's great news - another reason why I need to buy vcds then!
