Boot open indicator

I have an Audi A4 and the indicator in the dash tells me that the boot is not closed. it closes OK, but when I open it the boot light dosn't come on. Iv'e tried opening it, closing it and even locking the boot.

I know this might sound daft, but Is it an avant we are talking about.

If it is they are notorious for the rear wiper motors leaking washer fluid (the spray goes through a tube inside the casing) this can then leak inside the panel

This may cause a short/fault in the circuit for the boot warning (mine is doing this just now)
