Hello,

I've just bought a 2002 Polo 1.4 TDI PD 61,000 miles which seems to go very nicely but yesterday it suddenly seemed to run into sand  it was as though the turbo had stopped working. I stopped the car and turned the engine off, when I restarted it was fine again but this happened twice more on the journey. Switching the engine off and restarting seems to cure it - any idea what it might be please?

Thanks,
Tim

99% sure it will be the MAF. There should be a fault code logged from the time if first threw into limp mode.

Thanks very much for the prompt reply - the car goes in for service today so now I've described the problem and asked them to check the MAF.

They just need to plug in the fault code scanning machine, and it will tell them - Its less a case of checking the actual part, and more about what the actual car says is wrong. :)

It came back from service very underpowered - turbo not working at all - with a message asking me to go in to talk to the service manager :(

They didn't tell you what faults were logged on the ECU? Bit odd.

I'll ask when I go to see the service bloke tomorrow...

Hi,

I have a VW Polo 1.4 TDI Twist 2004 (04 Plate), recently I am experiencing the problem where whilst driving I will suddenly loose my turbo.

On turning off / on the engine, everything is back to normal with no problems.

It's an intermitant fault and the dealer (It's outside of warrenty) have told me that they dont know what the problem is (Despite them having done "Investigations" and charging £250+ the first time the fix the problem, the second time to tell me that it was dirty filters, and I now have it booked in for a week for the 3rd time).

I would be very interested to read what they said.

Regards

Had same problem with Golf GT TDI 110 BHP Turned out it was the Air flow metre that was dodgy.
