' Stuttering'

I am posting this question on behalf of one of my freinds. He has a 2.0 S-line 140 TDi, 55 plate (Dec) with 120K miles with FSH, last one 2k miles ago.

The car has an occasional slight stutter:- when he rests his foot on the accelarator (ie cruising allong in traffic) then puts his foot down there is a slight hesistation and stutter, then its off like a shot.

He has had the car for a couple of years and has had this fault for most of that time but its becoming more frequent.

He has had it plugged in to vagcom thingy with nothing showing.

Any suggestions welcome

I'm no expert but have had two faults at similar mileage which caused symptoms like yours.
First one was a failing throttle body. Don't think this is your problem though because this fault lights the engine check symbol and would certainly show up on a vagcom check.
Other thing was an exhaust gas recirculator valve (EGR) which clogs up with carbon over time. It's an easy thing to take off, inspect and clean if necessary. Mine failed completely and from memory was about £150.00 plus fitting.
Surprised to see no fault logged on vagcom, though.
