Hi all

I am now the proud owner of a A3 2.0 FSI 2004 year 64000 miles. The cam belt has NEVER been changed.

HOW do I change it?

Please HELP me

Thanks ALL

It should be changed after 75,000 miles or after 60 months, so rather overdue!
If you don't know how to change it get a garage to change it for you! It is a 2.2 hour job. You DON'T want to get it wrong! You need specialist tools to do it:

Auxiliary drive belt tensioner locking pin - Audi No.T10060A.
Engine support - Audi No.10-222A.
Engine support adaptor - Audi No.10-222A/12.
Two-pin wrench - Audi No.T10020.

Get the timing chain checked for wear at the same time - FSI engines are well known for wear on it.
Yes this engine does have a timing belt AND a timing chain.

Hi Jeremy23

Yes I am aware these engines are cam belt and chain.
I will ring my local Audi dealer tomorrow and price up / order the specialist tools.

All I need now is How to set the timing up before I do the job.

I have in the recent past changed cam belts on A4 V6 2.4 and A4 V6 2.8 using correct locking tools ETC

I am just stuck for timing marks on the A3
How do I check for ware on the chain and how much ware/play should there be?

Cheers

Hi,

Looking at auto data there is a timing mark at approx 1 o'clock on the Cam assembly and another at about 12:02 on the crank shaft. I don't seem to be able to screen print the image.

Hi Jeremey23 (sorry for a few days break hectic weekend)

Thanks for the information.
If they wont print, could you try "PrintScreen" this key is usually located near/next to Scroll lock
If you go to Windows accessories Paint - launch Paint - then go back to Autodata - go to the required information / picture and then press "PrintScreen" key and release it
Go to Paint (that you have all ready opened) then select paste. This will put the "PrintScreen" image in to paint.
You can then select SaveAs and save file to your chosen place.
You can they add to here or PM message me

I hope this helps thanks Ian
