Ive recently bought an 2005 A4 3.0tdi quattro s-line and have heard there are 2 variations on the power output, 204 & 240bhp. how do i know which i have ?Also looking at getting it remapped for more power & torque & fuel economy, and recommendations on brand and levels to achieve. look forward to your replies, thanks.

The 204 didn't come in the B7 - only the new A4/5/6/7

If you look in your service book or spare wheel well there will be a sticker with a number with KW at the end, ie 171kw.

Covert this number to bhp online using a converter and you'll get the power output.

I don't think the advice is quite right above, the 3.0tdi was a 204BHP on the early B7 from around 2005 - 2006 (I think this is often refered to as 210 BHP), I think you will find from late 2006 around 56 reg onwards the power was increased to 240 (I think this was actually 233 BHP but everyone called it 240)

We had the lower BHP 3.0tdi on a 55 reg at work, and it was still a quick car, sounded great but fuel economy was poor, around 30 MPG from memory.

Well you learn something new everyday eh? I thought the OP was referring to the new 3.0 TDi 204 found in the new cars and he had got confused!

The bit still applies at converting the kw number on the sticker to bhp

This is almost right but not quite. The confusion comes from the difference between BHP and PS. The first B7 3.0TDi was launched with 201bhp (204PS), but soon upgraded to 229bhp (233PS) some time during 2005, not sure exactly when. The 229/233 models are the TDV versions with the diesel particulate filter.

When the B8 took over from the B7 in early 2008, it was updated again to 236bhp (240PS).

I think that's right, but am happy to be corrected if someone has better information.
