A6 C7 VCDS Tricks

[MFGF]

Armed with my list of tricks from my C6 and other people's A4s and A5s I have experimented with, I decided to see what I could find and enable on my new A6 C7. I had some success, but not so much in other areas...

Pre-facelift Cars - 11 - 64 plate

1. Enabling Gauge Test/Needle Sweep
This will sweep the needles of the speedo and rev counter through their full range automatically when you start the engine.

Click on byte 1 and you'll see the selectable option: "Gauge Test/Needle Sweep active"
Check this option

This produced expected results :)

2. Enabling Lap Timer

This made no apparent difference to the DIS options between the clocks. Maybe I just have to find the right sequence to get to it?
Edit 07-09-12. Although this doesn't work on my car, it does on some. The Lap Timer option appears in the DIS menu on page 2 when you press the * button on the steering wheel and scroll down. You may be luckier than me and find it works on your car?

3. Kerb lighting
Illuminating the kerb when turning hard left or right at low speeds with dipped beam on, by turning on the all-weather light on the relevant side of the car.

I have now (finally) tested this works as expected. I needed a dark night and a quiet corner :)

4. Beep on lock
Chirp the alarm siren briefly when the alarm activates (ie all doors are closed and the car is locked)

Click on byte 1 and in bit 2 you'll see the selectable option: "Anti-Theft-System: Horn Confirmation active"
Check this option

This produced expected results :)

5. Hidden menu
Enable access to the green engineering menu in the MMI
[Select]
[5F - Information Electr.]
[Adaptation - 10]
Select Channel 6 and Read
change the value from 0 to 1 then Test then Save
Reboot the MMI (Press MENU, central MMI knob and top right softkey)
To get to the Hidden Menu, press and hold the CAR and MENU buttons for a few seconds. You may have to have a few attempts - if you don't press them at the exact same moment either CAR or MENU activates. You know if you have done it right because the red LEDs in the buttons do not illuminate.
WARNING!!!! BE CAREFUL!!! Do not mess with settings in the Hidden Menu unless you know what you are doing. On earlier MMI versions, people managed to activate the bootloader menu and fried their MMI. Use at your own risk. If in doubt, leave well alone! :)

This worked as expected.

6. Battery Meter.
Enter the Hidden Menu as in step 5 above.
Select Car
Select Carextdevicelist
Check "Battery"
Return
Select Carmenuoperation
Set "Battery" from 0 to 5
Return
Press CAR to exit the hidden menu
Reboot the MMI

Despite doing this, I could not find the battery meter displayed anywhere. I am a muppet though - it may be lurking in a menu I haven't found yet :)

7. VIM
Video In Motion - prevent the car from suppressing DVD playback once the speed of the car rises above 5mph
I used the same technique as in my C6 with MMI 3G. These are the steps I followed:

Make a note of the Serial Number
Go to Enable VIM TV-playback using VCDS/VAG-COM in your Audi MMI | trick77.com (http://trick77.com/2009/07/18/enable-vim-tv-playback-vcds-vag-com-mmi/)
Follow the link for MMI 3G
Enter your serial number into the input field
Make a note of the personal login code and the alternative login code it returns
[Security Access - 16]
Enter your personal login code.
[Do it!]
If you receive a "code not valid" message try the alternative code. If neither code works it's likely that your control module doesn't support VIM adaptation.
[Adaptation - 10]
Select channel 48
Press read
Set the value from 0 to 255
Press test
Press save
Press "Done, Go Back"
Close VCDS and reboot your MMI as detailed in step 5 above

This works as expected. :)

8. Passenger door mirror dip on selecting reverse.
When reverse gear is selected, the passenger door mirror dips to show the kerb if the mirror control knob is set to the passenger door mirror position. When driving forwards and exceeding 5mph or when switching off the car, the passenger mirror returns to its original position. If the position of the mirror is changed when dipped, this change is remembered the next time the mirror dips.

Set Bit 2 to "on"

Full details of this mod are lower down in the thread - it is a little disconcerting at the moment because VCDS has no information for the module and displays a warning when selecting Long Coding Helper. This works as expected :)

9. Disabling seatbelt reminder chimes.
Turn off the annoying "Bing bong" when you move the car on the driveway without your seatbelt fastened.

10. Disabling engine stop when opening driver's door.
Recode the Central Convenience module to STOP the engine from turning off when you get out, having moved the car.

11. Enabling the default distance setting in the MMI for Adaptive Cruise Control
Adding the option to modify the default distance for ACC (values 1 to 4) via the MMI

Set the value from 0 to 1
Press test

In the MMI you should now be able to go to Car > Driver Assistance > Adaptive Cruise and see a new option there to set the adaptive cruise distance.

12. Modifying the High Beam Assist speed threshold
Changing the threshold speed at which High Beam Assist activates

From the drop-down menu, select "High Beam Speed Threshold"
In the third entry box down on the left, enter the speed to set the threshold to in KM/h (eg 40)
Press save
Press "Done, Go Back"

22. Enable "Make calls using" feature in cars before MY2013 that have been updated to MMI 0770

Check "NAD operation mode"

Press CAR to exit the hidden menu
Reboot the MMI

After the reboot you will be prompted with the option to choose which device to use to make calls. Once you've selected which phone to use to make calls (mmi or mobile telephone) the system will advise a reboot is required which it will do itself.

This allows you to use the MMI to set the footwell lighting level while driving. Tested on cars with MMI 3G+ (Tech pack).

Yep - that is the way to go. VCDS is not supported natively on a Mac. See FAQ 1.8 on the Ross Tech support site, here:

I finally tried this tonight. With the switch on Auto, I saw the lighting pattern change as I turned sharp right before reversing into my drive. I kept my eye on the extra pool of light as I straightened the wheel, and saw it go again - it faded down rather than just cutting off suddenly. My car does not have AFS headlights, so it can only have been the all-weather light fading up and down for the sharp cornering manoeuvre. It only operates at low speeds I think.

I concur, it does work. When i first tried it, I don't know why it did not work, but it does now. Not sure about the extra benefit though, I have xenons, so did not notice much diference, but early days yet. will give an update later.

Is it possible to extend how long the ACC stays in Automatic Go?

I really don't know! I haven't connected up to any other C7 than my own, which doesn't have ACC. Give me a shout if you're ever in my area and we can take a look-see, or you could see if anyone near to you has VCDS and will be willing to take a look.

Update! I now managed to get passenger mirror dip on reverse working. I was working blind, as VCDS currently has no info on my passenger door module. When selecting the module, you are greeted by the following warning:

Don't be put off by this. The byte/bit combination to change is the same as on an A4 B8. Here are the steps:

I have electric folding mirrors, never been near the car with VCDS, and the mirrors (driver or passenger, as you wish) do dip on reverse. Just as promised.
On the driver's door-handle there is a three-way switch for the mirrors.
- set to the left makes the passenger's mirror dip on reverse.
- set to the middle engages the mirror heaters on both sides and disables dipping on both sides.
- set to the right dips the driver's mirror on reverse.

Is this some unique flaw in my wiring loom or is that the way it operates for anyone else?

I can't find the exact codes I have, but the description is - "Electric/heated/folding door mirrors with memory"
I have the Comfort Pack and the Storage Pack but no Tech Pack.

Does that answer the question, or does the 4-spoke steering wheel fit in here somewhere?
I just haven't got my head around the "if a but not b and c not or d then f" logic of how functions and features get enabled/disabled according to superficially separate installation options

Thats not what the brochure says. Option 6XE - straight forward folding mirrors with no memory should dip on reverse.

Ah well not sure on that - On the C6 you need folding and electric seats as a must.

All 2009+ cars accross the range can have the eature enabled with manual seats and non folding mirrors upwards.

Used to have an A4 Allroad took delivery of an A6 Allroad last week. Really enjoying it at the moment. I'm trying to look into stopping the screen from coming out on startup, however I don't think it is possible. So far I've done the needle sweep, seatbelts, and will do the reverse mirror and park brake off automatically with seatbelt off.

i have enabled the reverse mirror dip functions and its works a treat.
occacsionally when the mirror returns to its normal position it over does this and starts pointing to the sky.
a little annoying but can be quickly fixed with the knob.
anyone know why it does this? is it something i screwed up in vcds?

I think Mark had the same problem on his old C6 - and I can remember on various courtesy car this happened too so I'd say its completely normal.

I think its because you don't have the full memory package.

It's not the * button it's the menu button on the left side, which gives you the:

Onboard Computer
Efficiency Program
Cruise Control
I forget!

Anyway scroll down to the second page and Lap Timer should be above display darkened. If not your car does not support it (assuming you've set the bit in VCDS)

The link you provided doesn't link to a vcds cable, it brings up an ipod interface cable :confused:. If you're asking about the difference between genuine & non-genuine vcds cables, it's not really something you can discuss on the forum, but you won't be able to update a non-genuine cable with the latest software updates.

Right after my dealer re flashed the car to STOP the engine from turning off when you got out having moved the car, I have compared a full code read before and after. The module that was changed is the central convenience and it is one small change.

I've gone and changed it back to the original value and sure enough, drive the car and get out and the engine stops, adjust it and it keeps running.

I remember reading, that the feature senses speed, road friction and deceleration before activating emergency brake lights. I have managed to get brake lights flashing once, so it works (default enabled in our perifery) but be careful if you want to test it! Just on a wet grass or icy road it does not work - not enough braking force.

Unfortunately as far as I know, you will need vcds and follow Mark's instructions in the first post of this thread. I enabled it on a A5 following his instructs and it worked 100%.

hi again guys! did anyone manage to find the speed limit display activation?
i looked into one of the german forum and found certain codes but no success... but i was driving the other day and a 20mph came up on my hud+dis indicates its trying to work, the road i was driving is normally a 30 zone but on school hours it 20. so im guessing the lane assist camera is reading only that one time.

i also read that speed display is in navigation information if the camera is not operating meaning most people can get this to work even without lane+side assists

ACC will work as long as you need it while moving. Once you stop, I'm not sure what the rules are but it does seem to want a throttle blip to get going again if you are stationary for more than a few seconds. Have only tried it a few times, would be interested on how this works and if there are settings to control it.

Not much experience with this but this sounds more like the media shut off after a certain amount of time. It may be that changing this bit may prevent the media switching off after the 8 or so minutes after ignition switch off. Will I try it? Not brave enough, sorry!

A few additions I have done on my A7 and A5.

In cars with adaptive cruise control the default distance (1 to 4) can be changed from the CAR menu. If this menu option is hidden in you car, you can enable it with VAG-COM. From the Auto distance regulation module 13, Adaptation, Channel 7, change 0 to 1, Save.

After enabling, I had to switch the car off, back on again and then in the CAR menu, driver assistance, Adaptive cruise there is a new option to set the adaptive cruise default distance.

This one is JK88's work, I am just adding it to the list...

in VCDS, select controller 20 - High Beam Assist. When the window opens, select Adaptation. When that window pops up, select High Beam Speed Threshold from the drop down menu. In the third box down on the left put in the value you would like to change it to (the current value is in the box above it). The value is the speed in Km/h, I set mine to 40 (was set around 60 previously). The long code on my car now reads 04028E64747464545425363E.

Actually there are three settings for HBA; one is the limit when the high beam switches automatically to low beam (mine 28), one for the limit which below it cannot be switched to high beam (58) and third is city limit recognition which I assume to be linked to NAV I don't have.

As discussed elsewhere, my opinion is that on a clear dark condition it works pretty well, and also recognize red tail lights well, except when very poor e.g. trailer tail lights. Here it has been teached (by the old school) that low beam should be switched not when you see the counterpart but when the beams collides. Still, I would like to see some sensitivity setting, too. Only way is to set different windscreen with different dimming percentage, maybe.

Hi, from the sd card it won't reproduce videos, I tried with a bunch of formats without success. I think I heard that there is a version of the rmc unit that need to be updated via software to work with the red cable, but some Audi dealers are reluctant to do so unless there is a real problem with the actual version of software. You should try telling them that you are having troubles with the mmi and hope for an update, maybe saying that sometimes it freezes and only work after a reboot (which actually happens sometimes, very unusual, but happens).

Do you happen to know if there is a specific version of firmware that this needs to work with the red grommet cable? As amazingly I have had my MMI freeze and reboot itself a couple of time since it was last in to investigate a juddering clutch.

Happy days!!

Yes VCDS will work with RMC. Not sure what VCDS mods are specifically for the RMC but most tweaks are for the car.

Just found this one while trying to get something else to work.

When you unlock the car in the dark the DRLs and fog lights come on. If you would prefer your headlights to come on instead, go to:

09 cent electrics,

coding, long coding helper,

bite 6 and check bit 4 "coming/leaving home with low beam active" and uncheck "coming/leaving home with fog lights active"

I assume that if you have both checked both will come on but didnt stop to check.

Nice and easy mod to do.

sorry to say, but why would you like to fire up high voltage expensive xenons for CH/LH ? It was the first mod to make to use cheap H7 instead, they are more than enough and not so bright to be used for short on/off lights. I also changed them to 4500K ones to be more close white to DLR's. LEDs I would not try, since they are time-dimmed during cornering and performs more smooth gradient.

Primarily, aesthetics. The use of fog lights is a personal hatred of mine and offenders should be publicly executed in my opinion. I have changed the bulbs in the fog lights to a 4300k colour but still using halogen bulbs, however it just looks silly with them coming on when it's not foggy. Therefore decided to enable the above. Looks much better in my opinion.

fogs or all-weather likes like I heve in A6 C7? they are in the same assembly than headlights, and not so distinguishable, so that's why I like them more, also during driving; they does not show directly ahead.

enables DRL on/off setting in MMI. Our Audi importer have hidden the menu and set DRL permanently ON (very wise they did that for our weather conditions, esp. tail lights). In same instances it would be nice to have ability to completely switch lights off, so this enables MMI menu item, in case you don't have it.

Byte 4
Bit 6 enables tourist mode setting in MMI (driving on left (= wrong) or right). Headlights will be dipped a bit, usefull when driving in a convoy because the lights tend to blink the car mirror in front on a hilly roads.

Bytheway, german version "DRV" of VCDS at ross-tech.de has much more coding texts and adaptation explanations than in imperial version.

Look at 1 and 2 in post #1 then go into the menu button on the steering wheel (one beside the left hand side scroll wheel) then go into Lap Timer.

Done both the lap timer and the auto parking brake. There is no temperature shown for the oil though, as with your pics above its just blank - is there a way to fix this? I drove until my engine was at normal operating temperature. Auto parking brake is awesome though!

Thats the rear seatbelt thing, when a seatbelt has been put on, the icon(s) will go solid white.

Personally I wouldn't be doing that while the car is still under warranty as you're taking the suspension past the factory settings.

I was thinking of lowering it by about 15-17mm. Not sure if it will mess up the driving geometry. From the rosstech website, they only have security access key for C6 A6.

I wouldn't take the risk as if something inside the suspension fails and Audi see that you've been messing with it they'll void the warranty.

Surely if you're just fitting Euro lights then untick the box for the side markers? Try module 46 too if you have it.

Firstly, MF great post. I have done a few of these mods and they have worked a treat.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the RMC MMI system. I have enabled the green menu and accessed it but there is no option to select car settings it seems purely for changing Radio/Media/Nav/Tel functions.

I'm looking to enable the interior lights menu. I have enabled the option though Module 09 Cent Elec but as I have the RMC unit I cannot enable the menu option through the hidden menu. My 5F coding is:

I think the closest we can get to this is the convenience close function - press and hold the lock button on the remote. It should be enabled as standard on UK cars.

No. Your changes might get overwritten if the car receives an update but no affect on the warranty.

Great info and I would like to buy the kit and make some changes, but I can’t help thinking that if a fault developed with something I had changed then Audi have an easy out. If the clocks stopped working after enabling needle sweep or the lights stopped adjusting after enabling kerb lighting etc, etc.

I can’t see anything on their site… has Audi given written approval of this kit and/or the tweaks?

You're worrying over nothing. If people had issues re warranty then VCDS wouldn't have a good a name as it does and it may not even exist.

Both of my cars have been in with Audi, both with Audi Extended and factory warranty along with VCDS mods enabled and never once has there been any complaint.

No endorsement, it's all software. Audi can enable them to but don't consider them a factory 'retrofit' so in most cases they won't do it unless you have a technician with VCDS who could do them in the car park.

On my previous cars, I always managed to get the windows to close if it was raining - cant remember what controller it was in exactly.

Has anyone figured out how to do this on the A6 C7? Its really handy to leave the windows slightly open on a warm day at work, and not have to run out to close them if it rains :)

I believe Lap timer can only be activated when the car is equipped with a wiper stalk that has two buttons. As shown in figure 1 http://www.audienthusiasts.com/Articles_LapTimer.html. My A4 B8's wiper stalk has those buttons and I was able to activate the feature, but my A6 C7's wiper stalk does not have those buttons, thus no lap timer.

However, before deactivating the function, I failed to notice if activating the lap timer function on the A6 would activate oil temp.

You are right. I checked A6's brochure and manual, and it looks like A6's stalks have no buttons. Unfortunately for me, my car's hardware and software revisions don't support lap timer.

Lap timer depends on instrument module 17 version, if I remember it has to be "515" or later to have this, nothing to do with stalk buttons. Early 2012 builds does not have such version. Like mine ... sigh ...

Splash and I tried to set up a few things on my allroad last night and here are the results - these are using the guidance off the first post.

- Lap timer / Oil temp / Boost works fine. Oil temp is the item of interest so pleased to be able to see that.- Battery meter, we tried to enable but I still cannot find it in the MMI- Passenger door mirror dip on reverse works as expected. As has been noted if you turn the adjuster knob away from the left mirror setting it does not dip (and if dipped returns to regular position)- Close boot with key does not seem to work

Looks like your Park Brake has a newer software version so maybe thats the reason for it. Mine is a 12 plate so perhaps they have changed it.

On another topic, I was nosing around in the hidden menu and noticed options for enabling the Rest Recommendation and Tilt Angle Display systems. I can enable the options in the MMI but they are greyed out as I would imagine I need to enable something with VCDS. Does anyone have either of these systems enabled? If so could you post a an autoscan so I can compare the differences and see if this is something that can be switched on.

Both are enabled in my allroad - although I switch of the rest nag function in MMI. I've included the dump of the scan below.
The issue MAY be that your chassis type is 4H (I think) whereas allroad is 4G

It may be that for tilt angle you do not have all of the required sensors, I suspect you may have fore/aft angle for the clever cruise control / gearbox stuff but not 'yaw' (side to side)... unless it is a single sensor unit (which in these days of mobile phones and embedded accelerometers etc. would be the logical thing to do).

There is one error logged (which seems to be common - Splash has it and I saw another post where it was also present) - 5F-Information Electr. -- Status: Malfunction 0010
Reading the detail of the log I THINK it relates to a failed opening of the MMI pop-up screen... Anyone else seeing this?

Cool, I'll have a pour through it over the weekend and see if anything jumps out at me.

Had a look at coding that in by going through the coding differences one at a time but didn't get the tilt angle or rest recommendation to work.

I did get a few other things to change like saloon or avant in the MMI display but that can be altered through the green menu and not sure why you would change it anyway.

I'm guessing additional sensors are required for tilt angle and rest recommendation.

1. Enabling Gauge Test/Needle Sweep - Erm well I thought about this but Splash (who did my VCDS tweaks) and I chatted and decided it's a gimmick and will just add wear and tear to the dials. I guess it's a drop in the ocean vs. their overall use but it really serves no purpose. My brothers S4 has it and the novelty wears off pretty quick.


3. Kerb lighting - yup very useful.


8. Passenger door mirror dip on selecting reverse. Useful again


12. Modifying the High Beam Assist speed threshold. I thought about this but having used the car quite a bit the existing threshold seems fine. You might want to hold off until you have driven with the stock setting.


18. Disable DRL dim on turn signal... Why? Surely it's a safety feature to help people see that you are indicating.

I don't have VCDS which is where I guess you got the cluster version info from. Meeting up with Splash and Passatier3 later this evening and Splash is gonna do some VCDS tweaks for me so will find out if it works or not.
Not really interested in the lap timer but oil temp and battery info is nice to have.
I finally got round to trying these on mine, and selected the battery option in the hidden menu. The wording wasn't identical to that in the first post, so I continued scrolling until I was sure I had got the right one. Was sorely tempted to turn "Charisma" up to full.:D

Mine wouldn't accept the Lap Timer coding and through up an error, so no oil temp display for me. I'll maybe try again. DIDN'T WORK - Error 24.

When selecting or ch 6 to enable the hidden menu I did notice an error displayed on ch 4. I'd be grateful if someone could confirm this on theirs.

I disagree but purely down to where I live. I'm in the country where sometimes turns are done at speeds below 20 mph and I can't get above 30-40.

Since changing mine and the wife's it has become a whole new feature and now worthwhile having it.

Understood M1tchy... I've spent some time in your neck of the woods and appreciate that some of the smaller lanes are very tight. I do live in the countryside also but have access to 'faster' roads for most of my night time driving.

My point to whitter45 was that 'your mileage may vary'. Out of the box the threshold may well suit the environment that whitter45 drives in - as I noted I've not really found any issue with the default behaviour.

Finally got my new BE A6 Avant last week after the first one was delivered wrong.

Managed to play with VCDS and have been able to adjust the DRL brightness with the headlights on. By default they dim to 26% brightness:

Sorry, can't seem to work out why my images are rotated 90deg!

Tried this against the garage wall and the increase in light output is significant. From what I can see, this works for LED lights without impacting the DRLs when indicating. Take care with xenon's - you don't want to keep the DRLs at 100% brightness while indicating...

Finally got my new BE A6 Avant last week after the first one was delivered wrong.

Managed to play with VCDS and have been able to adjust the DRL brightness with the headlights on. By default they dim to 26% brightness:

Sorry, can't seem to work out why my images are rotated 90deg!

Tried this against the garage wall and the increase in light output is significant. From what I can see, this works for LED lights without impacting the DRLs when indicating. Take care with xenon's - you don't want to keep the DRLs at 100% brightness while indicating...
Should be able to see you from Stranraer now!

Is this so you have can see better (when you can't use full beam) or is the intention to be seen better? Or is it purely for cosmetic reasons? From the photos I think it loses the definition/contrast of the DRLs.

Mainly cosmetic to be honest, I can't see it making a real difference to the light thrown out by the LED headlights on dipped beam while driving!

I didn't like the way the DRLs dimmed when the headlights switched on, so this just makes them maintain the normal DRL brightness. It looks fuzzy on the picture, but in reality it's still a nice crisp line.

Not sure if this is the default setting for everyone, but I couldn't rip CDs to my HDD (MMI Plus) even though I specifically asked the dealer this and they confirmed it would. Easy enough fix in the hidden menu:

I heard that if an A6 is equipped with adaptive headlights it also has the road sign recognition by default as the 2 systems use the same camera. Any truth in this? Can the road sign recognition be activated with VCDS?

The camera it uses is from the adaptive cruise control system. I think it is possible to enable however I am so close but not quite there.

Have a look in the A7 section and I have started a fairly long thread with reference to enabling this feature. As you will see we can get it to show on the MMI but not fully functional.

Hi All

Having now had my car since March. I feel now I've got used to at least some of it's features. Is it ridiculous that I've still not looked at the manual!
Anyway. The idea of some VCD additions has appealed since I first started doing my research here - would certainly have made some big mistakes without all the help - Thanks all.

So, the question is. What tweaks does everyone recommend? And am I missing some from my tentative wish list?

So far, I'd like to enable VIM, The speed the high beam assist kicks in is way too low for me. Both park brake release and chime with seatbelt off due to the way I have to park in my driveway. Boost and oil gauge.

As I have adaptive cruise and tech advanced, can the speed recognition be enabled yet? I read that someone was working on that.

Not sure about the needle sweep thing, and that begs the question, If It gets enabled by VCD'S Can you then switch it off using the car systems or would I need again the help of a friendly VCD technology equipped forum member?


And advice before I take the plunge and ask for a helpful poster to plug the car into the mainframe!!!?

One other thing you could consider is changing the adaptive cruise control preset distance. When you switch the cruise on it automatically sets itself to distance 3. You can enable a menu that allows you to select which distance it will start off at when you set the cruise. If it's not been added to this thread check out the A7 VCDS tricks page I've made in the A7 section for how to go about it.

As for the adaptive cruise idea, that sounds exactly the sort of thing I was likely to miss! Does that mean you can set it to perhaps distance one as a default or will I then get the choice via a sub menu? Shame about the recognition...

Read somewhere that start/stop will start the engine when turning the steering wheel while stop cycle is on. Tried and yes, it will do, but as the power steering is not in place it's a bit heavy. I've seen a bit in VCDS to activate power steering whilst engine is stopped. Has anyone tried this, or is it already set in UK cars?

There's a good reason the DRLs are dimmed with dip/main on as the high brightness setting of the DRLs will be too bright for oncoming traffic, especially on unlit roads.......entirely up to you of course, but could be deemed a bit dodgy.

Same reason some DRLs are dimmed/turned of with indicators working as they would be brighter than the indicators and obscure the signal.

But I don't see why they would dim for headlights. If the DRL is an acceptable brightness for normal use, why would it be too bright when used with (even brighter) headlights?

The DRLs will only turn off/dim with indicators if the manufacturer deem they compromise the given signal ie if the indicators are in close proximity to the DRLs in the lamp assembly, if the indicators are well spaced then no need.

Its a bit like my clock radio. The brighter the room the brighter the LED gets, but when it gets darker the led dims more and more, otherwise it would be painfully bright on my eyes.

I managed to get mine set up today. I opted for the reversing mirror drop, needle sweep and kerb lighting. All functioning as per above. Made a very nice personalised effect to the car. My wife can't understand any of it, but I'm pleased.

Hi Guys, as a newbee on here and new to Audi can I assume that these codes are hidden / locked in the computer ECU in the car ! From reading you buy a lead and download information on a site which unlocks a code and unlocks new features ?

Do Audi not do this for you or is it a no no. I like the idea of some of these tasks but I'm a real washout when comes to techy stuff. If there is someone near Shrewsbury, Shropshire who can help (£) please

Yeah mate you need a cable which is in the region of £250. Then the software which is free.

If you don't want to shell out, then search this forum for VCDS users map. Open it up and find someone near to you. It is full if members from this forum that are willing to help people out. You then need 10 posts or a helpful forum member to PM someone near to you who will do all the bits you want, normally for beer tokens.

shaneypoopers have a look at your spare wheel well you will find a sticker with the build details for your vehicle, if you don't mind and if you can grab an image of this, it should look like this and is a detailed breakdown of the feature and components that went into the build of your vehicle . . . It should look something like the below attached image

You'll be looking for the code "QR9" that code denotes that your vehicle has "traffic sign recognition"
My hope is it doesn't and that you have stumbled upon the method to activate the feature on a suitably equipped car in which case well done and thank you to you . . .
I don't think that there would be a difference in whether the measurements are metric or imperial . . . but I could be wrong.:confused::confused:

There are different versions of instrument modules. According to internet, it works on "Component: TDieRdw H79 0515", MY13. Mine is MY12, last numbers 0416 and it does not work. Part number is also different, 4G8 920 931 N.

Hmm. I'd guess that the part numbers and "TDieRdw" bit can be ignored as that's might just be different gauges for different engines with different rev-limiters).... but maybe those four last numbers of 0375/0416/0515 are important! Wonder if it's hardware or software though?

Just a thought but do you need colour DIS to get lap timer working? It may be that audi only every created one set of lap timer display code 'shaped' for the colour DIS - cos on my car it definitely uses all of the real estate ... turbo boost gauge follows the side of the rev counter dial and manual gear change shift indicator go right the way across the top between the clocks in colour.
The oil temp display is positioned up to the right - in an area that does not exist on a mono DIS to my knowledge

I tried to activate the hidden menu in info electric, channel 06 test value set from 0 to 1 and it wont take. It keeps reverting back to 0. Any ideas.... ts an August 13 reg f hat make any difference?

Same conclusion here on MY12, my last desperate attempt is to upgrade the MMI to latest version and see if that changes anything... probably not, maybe instrument cluster software is separate and non 'upgradeable'

I've already got the latest MMI (770) and it doesn't do it. Unless the instrument cluster has software that is upgraded separately...

guys at work have done this on their golfs but I am told it can drain your battery if you do not use your car for a long period as the rain sensor is always powered/activated

I did this previously on my passat cc using vcds but the menu descriptions where listed but with the A6 using vcds the descriptions are blank so there's no way of knowing what your changing!

I tried to access the hidden menu again using channel 6 but it doesn't work, the reason being it is the channel for the radio. when I changed the value to 1 and saved it I lost all the preset radio channels. I tried channel 5 and it gave me access to a green menu but its different to the secret menu On the top its showing <EM 1.1e_rmc> /main No car menu or devicelist present. Any ideas....

Same thing happened when I tried this mod on my avant. I tried several combinations of touch and tap to close with no success. I assume the hardware for this is already installed as the button on the boot lid works fine?

My MY12 has Avant power tailgate option 4E7, module 6D, not 4D. What module you are trying to code? Check that the touch and tap functions are not activated at the same time, and that you are trying with ignition off, otherwise the fob does not work. There is also setting called close vicinity or smthng which may affect the range (one could expect that this means if the remote works far away, not just close to the lid, there is a detection for it). Touch means long press, tap single press.

Hey, yes I was coding in 6D, I assumed 4D was the saloon module? My car already had touch to open coded, and this also went wonky when I tried adding the tap to close function - it made the boot just 'pop' rather than power open. Have you got both open and closing via remote working?

I was locking the car in between attempts to ensure the ignition was off. I haven't seem any vicinity setting - I'll have a look though, worth tweaking to see if that helps. Thanks, Ross

Yes, open and close with remote. Ex factory there was only touch open with fob, which remains the same as it is a worth of having some filtering for accidentally opening the boot. I then just added tap closing which worked fine. Also I changed door switch closing to tap closing without beeps.

This isn't a "trick" as such because you need extra parts but it is possible to retrofit the lighting pack to a standard A6. This includes the exterior door handle LED light and interior door trim light bar, which connect to unused pins in the door control module (the light bar goes to pin 8 on the 32 pin connector and the door handle LED goes to pin 5 on the 6 pin connector). To get this working you need to code it, but VCDS doesn't have any labels for it so I had to work them out by hand. If anyone is interested, the codes are:

Enable door trim light bar and exterior handle LED:
All door modules (addresses 42, 52, 62, 72): Coding...Long coding helper: Change Byte 2 from 1C to 1F

Tell the car you have the lighting pack (only required to activate door handle LEDs):
Cent Elect module (address 09): Coding...Long coding helper: Change Byte 16, bit 7 to 1. My coding went from 4F to CF, a standard car with no options would be 0F to 8F.

If for some reason you have the lighting pack but hate the exterior LEDs and want to disable them on one or more doors, you could do that too!
Alternatively, changing byte 16 in the cent elect module would disable the exterior LEDs but leave the door trim ones working.
