High revs when engine cold

Revs on A4 2.0 diesel automatic run high at around 2000-2500 when engine cold. Settles down later at around 1800. Car was serviced in December and has not done much mileage. What could be causing this?

Allthese figures are about double what they should be.Maybe overfuelling.Needs checking asap

I am concerned some similar threads talk about a possible gearbox problem!! Should the diagnostic check report an error?

Get a full scan done and if nothing comes up, change the coolant temperature sender.
