Hi all

I have a Audi A3 2.0FSI AXW engine code - its covered 65000 mile and 6 years old

How often should the cambelt be changed?

How hard / easy is it to change the cambelt?

Thanks All

You are in the danger zone on age. Five years is the usual limit, some say four years to be on the safe side.

On mileage, 65,000 is OK, but approaching the limit.

As regards the job itself, having just done my wife’s 2.0TDi (BKD engine), I would rate it very difficult. Main problem is having to remove the RH engine mount. I used the Haynes Manual which I found left a lot to be desired. I’m thinking of writing up some tips for the Forum.

I would only entrust the job to an Audi dealer or an experienced specialist.

Thanks djgilson
Looks like I will be spending a few £££££ then
I have been working on cars / motorcycles for over 30 years so it should be in my scope to replace.
The only thing I am not sure of is timing marks!!??
Any one help PLEASE
Cheers

Don’t get me wrong about Haynes - whatever the shortcomings of the Manual, you still need it, or something like it, as the basis for the job. I’ve just had a quick look at the Section on the AXW group of engines and the timing marks seem to be well detailed, rather better in fact than on the BKD!

As threatened, I've posted a guide in the How To section on changing the BKD timing belt:

Can anyone advise realistically at what point I should change the cambelt on my 2007 2.0TDi.
Its just done over 54K this week. As far as I know, it hasn't been done.

Current Audi advice on their website is 5 years or 75,000 miles, whichever comes first, for all engines.

Yours is 5 years old, so...................
