A while ago, you have all seen the thread, my oil light came on when the oil level was a 50%. Well today on my way home, the brake pad level indicator came on. Now I knew my pads were ok as I check them every time I wash the wheels. I gave I visual check when I got home and all corners must be 5 to 6mm, I would of thought this was plenty.

I suspect this is another case of poorly designed sensor location thus you have work done sooner than it is actually required. Anyone else experienced this?

Possibly, do you discs have a lip on them? the wire will be on the n/s/f only and on the inside pad so either a broken wire....very low pad....or lip cutting into sensor making circuit complete :)

I had a similar thing happen not so long ago, visually the pads were fine, but after taking wheels off and checking each sensor I found it was the sensor that wasn't working. Left it for a while till just a week or so ago when I upgraded my disc's from standard to drilled and grooved. Also upgraded my pads from generic to brembo. Obviously this fixed the problem and I have some spare generic pads with 1 faulty sensor.

Barry, there is a slight lip on all 4 discs.

Boxa, did you change all 4 corners or just the fronts, and how much did the discs and pads cost please?

I think New discs are required. See the photos of the worn inside edge of the nearside inside pad (the one with the sensor).

I have had a quote for the parts, standard discs and pads, £70 for the fronts 30 for pads, 40 for discs.

What to you think?

I only replayed the front discs and pads but will be replacing the back pads and discs from same company in a couple of months or maybe sooner.

Forget the generic, standard, go Brembo for an extra tenner,

£40 from this seller and it's what I got:

£45 for Drilled and Grooved Disc's:

Pads were delivered within 2 days and discs took about 3 days.

see, nothing poor about the design of the sensors. they did their job and alerted you to the fact the breaks needed a look at . :)

Correct zollaf. Although I have a lip on the outer circumference of the disc, as they are worn, I also have a ridge on the inner circumference of the disc. It is this ridge that has worn on the pad.

Boca, are they from the same seller? The pads link says the item is ended. The disc works ok.

Different sellers and the link for the pads works but the item has ended, you can use the info on the page to search for the same item.

If your's will take the same as mine then the code your looking for is P85085

Here's the search done for you:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A4%257C39%253 A1%257C72%253A6003&rt=nc&_nkw=P85085&_dmpt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1

I think them pads will be fine for your car, assuming it's the one in your sig, A4 Avant B7.

It's Free delivery on both them items, the discs and pads, so no extra hidden charges.

Hi. Thanks. I am now watching the same pads from two different sellers, oddly both the same price.

I ordered from one of the sellers and after waiting over a week and several calls, once every couple of days, was finally told they don't have any in stock.

The link to the discs you posted, they aren't brembo are they? i always try stick with same makes of discs and pads on the same axle at least, alternatively some Brembo max discs are listed elsewhere on the net.

Brake pads purchased from GSF. Really extortionate (not) £19.20.
They look just like the brembo images I've seen.

Will order discs off eBay, and while I'm at it, some copper grease.

Not a bad price.

Boxa, i have fitted the discs you recommended with pads from GSF, the only thing i noticed was there was no drilled and countersunk hole for the little locating screw to go in to the disc. this was soon rectified as we drilled holes using the old discs as templates.

On the nsf disc, the locating screw was rusted in solid and we were unable to remove it, we drilled the head off and gor the disc off, tidied the remainder of the screw and mounted the new disc without using the locating screw as we coundnt get the rest of it out the hub.

the wire will be on the n/s/f only and on the inside pad

Following this advice i removed the nsf wheel and got the photos you have all seen.

Having now fitted the new discs and pads, i can tell you all that the brake sensor wires are fitted to BOTH nsf an osf inside pads. when we removed the osf inside pad, the wire had totally worn through where it joins the pad.

Hi Ben

I wasn't aware of any issues with the disc's. I asked my cousin to fit them because I was busy with work, so we swapped cars and he fitted the disc's and pad's. After I collected it back from him he said it was a straight swap. Plan to have the rear disc's and pad's done in hopefully June or latest July.

Glad you got them sorted now mate.
