Good day everyone.

I am moving to Leamington Spa this weekend and need to get some work done on my Passat very soon... Leaking rad and cambelt due for a change. Can anyone recommend a good independant to do the work. Preferably a VAG specialist.

Thanks in advance.

Had my cambelt and water pump changed at United repairs in Leamington Spa, the garage was onbly small, but the serivce I had was good and the guys seemed very helpful! Cost me £200 all in which is alot better than the £380 that the ******* wanted!

Just so you know, there are 2 Volkswagen specialists that I sent my Passat to when I used to live in Coventry. I now live in Birmingham and use Frontier Volksworks.

S&T VW
Hanford Close Ind Est, Stoney Stanton Rd, Coventry - 02476 637447
Pros: Really nice guys, tidy garage, good rates.
Cons: No courtesy car, don't follow VW servicing levels (they only have an oil service and full service, not the 10k, 20k and 40k.)

Just VW Audi
10 Chequer St., Bulkington, Coventry CV12 9NH - 02476 491817
Pros: Good guys, similar service levels to VW, good choice of parts, courtesy cars available. Complimentary mini valet when your car is serviced. Inspection reports are good, all faults that they picked up were actually true (I checked with another garage the first time I went there) - too many garages these day make them up!
Cons: Don't ever use their pickup service. Take the car there yourself and pick it up.

Thanks for that info.

In the end I did all the servicing and rad change by myself, as I could not justify paying out what the garages wanted for such simple jobs. At least I know that the fluids have deffinately been changed now.. And the rad!

Not always do I have enough time to do all these myself tho, so thanks again for the info.

Tom.

Aren't B.R.Motorsport in Leamington ? I'm sure I remember them from the late 80's, early 90's as being one of the big tuning boys for VAG's.....

Had the cambelt changed at 120K. The place is really small, but he was very helpful and seemed to do all that was required. He was also very cheap! :o

Pete Scale and Cresent garage Heathcote are my recomendations, especially the latter where they really invest in their mechanics.

After ringing round for a lot of quotes these guys at T and H in Leamington seemed pretty reasonable. After ringing back to make sure their quote included VAT we got them to change the water pump on our bora (Quote 366gbp inc cam belt). They did the cambelt at the same time and they had to change a hydraulic something or other as well as that was broken. They rang up to check it was ok to do the extra work first. Went to pay and the bill was 498gbp inc cam belt but to be fair the lady said she made a mistake and had added too many hours labour on.
When they rang up about the additional work they also said that 3 of our tyres were illegal and gave us a price to change them. Luckily we declined as when we picked it up I checked and they arent even down to the wear indicators on the tyres.

All in all the service from the lady on the phone was very good, but something about them seems a bit dodgy.

Not sure if it actually worked out any cheaper than going to the main dealer to be honest.

Yeah I went in there to ask about a serive including changing the cambelt and water pump. It was in excess of £500... So I went to United repairs, were it was half the price.

I also asked to look at their service checklist. To be honest everything on there is easily performed by anyone with minimal mechanical experience. And where it says about checking oil / fluids, it only said to check and change if necessary. If I take my car in, i expect all fluids and oils to be changed! What else do you pay that cash for?

Besides I did it all for about £90 and dirt over my face and fingers by myself. :approve:

I too live in L'spa and am looking to change cam belt on audi a2.........have been to T&H motors in L'spa previously for a service, and it was cheaper than main dealers....I believe that A2's are difficult machines to work on ..would United Repairs do an audi?

Thanks:1zhelp:

Most reliable way to find out about specific garages in a town is to ring the major motor factors in the area! As they see warranty returns from every garage at some point, and will deal with the majority of garages within 10 miles at least, speaking to them daily, they have a better overview than anybody.
I'd first ask them if a specific garage is ok or not, then see if they recommend one in the town. Whilst not completely unbiased, you won't get a bum recomendation.

In Leamington the major factors are Central Auto Supplies (CAS) and Leamoco, members of two of the biggest buying groups in the UK.
