Hi all B7 owners, how are you finding the B7,
1. does it drink oil like the B6?
2. does the DSG box still have the jerkiness and mechatronic problems
3. does the electric hand brake still have randomly sticking on problems
4. do the turbo's have the sticky vanes problem

sorry if this sounds a bit negative, but i've had passats over the last 10 years and love em, had a 2001 b5.5 130 tdi did 200k and had very few problems, then i upgraded to the 2006 B6 and had all the problems listed above from 60k up to 150k as did quite a few of our drivers (taxi) after having so many problems with the B6(always serviced at vw every 10k) i got rid and went back to a 55 plate B5.5, when i got this 55 plate it had 61k it now has 110k and is still going strong , in 12 months time it will have 200k, i always change my cars around this mileage, and want to stay with vw but dont want to go down the B6 route so hoping the B7's are better any input from owners would be very helpful thanks

B7 170 Sport Saloon
1. Only 11,000 miles, but oil level still at the top of the dipstick
2. No DSG
3. No problems at all with the electric handbrake
4. Too early to say about turbo vanes, but no hints so far.

hi,

I echo the above. None of the problems mentioned on my TDI 140 Sport with 7800 on the clock.

I've got the 2.0 TD140, had it around 3 weeks, and I'd say he DSG is the smoothest change you could want. I previously had a Jaguar S-Type and that box was smooth, but the DSG beats it. Even if you use the paddles to downshift it doesn't snatch, you only notice the change by watching the rev counter.

26,000 miles here and no problems so far; no noticeable oil consumption and manual box so no DSG. In town the auto-hold takes most of the work way from the handbrake so I don't expect any issues. I'm looking forward to seeing if the rear tyres become noisy with uneven wear towards 40,000 miles as they did on my B6.

Otherwise a fantastic car and definitely better than the B6, especially the Tdi engine.

B6 owner here, but I can offer a bit of insight:

My (CR engine) B6 hasn't had a drop of oil between services
My B6 DSG had jerkiness straight from the factory. Fixed under warranty at the two year service and now perfect. My Golf and my wife's car, both DSG have been fine. The six speed boxes have a slightly better reputation than the 7 speed.
Electronic handbrake was improved late 2007 and supposedly is much more reliable
ALL diesel turbos with VNT mechanisms, irrespective of manufacturer or model will eventually be at risk of turbo vane problems. Might be 30k miles, might be 200k. It's the nature of the beast.

B7 2.0se 140bhp estate 14 months old 67K, never added any oil.
Much the same as my last 2 realy no major problem only issue had was in 05plate was the fuel pump. both previous cars did over 160k in 3 years.
but neither of my previous 2.0 cars drank oil, but i dont hang about from the day they are delivered and always service at the 20k with main dealer.

I was more fed up of the rear tyres on the last car saw toothing, but that has stopped.
Both previous did over 100k before needing brakes this looks like the same.
prefered the led rear lights, front fogs a waste of time same as drl's
Both previous the drivers door window interior was damaged by r/h arm resting on it and plastic miss-shaped, this one is a bit harder.
MPG has dropped to 59.3 average last car was 60.9, but that may come back after winter.
