Time long gone to change my tyres, can't keep using my winter wheels any longer, the fuel consumption is trying to kill me!

My head is buzzing with searching for good value tyre deals, can anyone please point me to any deals for good tyres. I'm hoping to avoid spending a fortune. Would like to get good tyres for about £100 each, is that reasonable?

Looking for 245/45/R17

Please, dealhunters, show me the way!

Let me get this ball rolling.

This is what I've found so far, Hankook K11 V12 EVO from Camskill, 4 for £434.36

Also found this: Barum Bravuris 2, not sure how good they are, some reviews say they're ok. 4 for £326.80

are those tyre sizes correct? I thought they were more like 225's on an SE?

Hi there, thanks for replying.

My car came with the 245/45/17s (SE Executive). Not sure if that was an upgrade by the original owner (I bought used, it less than 1yr old). My winter alloys and tyres are 225/50/17s however.

Thought about buying summer tyres for my winter alloys and retiring the 245s but not sure.

Yep - mine's a 2010MY (B8) 2.0TDI Multitronic SE Exec and it came with those sizes (Pirelli Cinturato P6s originally - yeuch!). Now got Michelin Primacy AO HPs - much quieter, and not scary in the wet. Only prob is £186 each fitted from Wilco - but wear rate is looking very good...

If you've got a car that recent, doesn't make sense to skimp on tyres (IMHO).

Try pricing up Uniroyal Rain Sport 2's, Uniroyal are owned by Continental as are Barum.

Thanks crasher.
Can't seem to find any good deals online for the RainSport 2s.

Are Barum that bad? The reviews seem so positive for the Bravuris 2.

I've found AVON AV ZV5 95Y for £406 fitted but have never really heard of them. Are they better value than the Hankooks I posted in the OP?

Thanks a lot. Your suggestions are helping me big time.

Barum are made in the same factory as some sizes as Uniroyals and are part of the same Continental group. It is a little bit like How VW/Audi is to Seat and to Skoda, it is all about branding.

I was in the same position as you about 2 years ago with my last car (b7) and did my research and went for the hankook v12's and was very impressed with them, the price you have been quoted is about right, they offer superb grip in the wet and dry and respond really well under breaking, the only thing i noticed was a little bit more tyre noise but nothing much and didn't bother me, the improvment over the handling of the orignal continental tyres more than made up for that :biglaugh:

hi,

Lassa Impetus Revo would fit you well. Good and budget tyres.

Very poor wet weather grip in my experience.

Never heard of Lassa. Thanks for the suggestion but reviews aren't that good.

Bit the bullet, went for the Barums. Getting them fitted soon. Will update the thread with my experience/review. I hope it works out.

The Continental tie-in and positive reviews (even from A4 owners as well) swayed me. Time will tell.

My dilly-dallying cost me £40 though

Thanks a lot folks!

I'd second (or third?) that. I've just changed my Dunlop sports for hankooks and I have to say they are every bit as good as the dunlops. In fact, I'd even say the wet grip seems better with the hankooks - the car certainly seems to grip better when pulling off in the wet. I haven't really noticed any extra noise either. As long as they wear ok I'd certainly buy them again.

Thanks everyone!
Finally fitted my Barum Bravuris 2 tyres at National Tyres. Good service, only gripe is that they labelled my car an A5! :biglaugh: Otherwise, pretty snazzy!
First few miles feel good.
Will let you all know how they fare. Hopefully no close acquaintances with ditches!
Please, feel free to bump this thread in a few months if anyone wants an update and I've been tardy.
