Hi everybody,

Please help if you can.

Problem started 2 days ago when my car wouldn't go into gear. It only happened once then it was fine.

The clutch is not slipping at all. Yesterday I stopped at a junction and when going to set off, I was unable to select gear.

I turned the engine off and the car went into all gears fine.

I managed to get the car home with difficulty. I had to turn the engine off everytime I stopped so that I could get it into gear.

The car is going into gear fine this morning. However, there is a rattling noise when you are stationery with your foot down on the clutch pedal.

This is confusing and I am being told different things that could be wrong.

Has anybody ever had this problem or do you have a clue please?????

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks guys

Not going into gear would be a linkage problem but this wouldnt come and go like this so it must be the clutch and or the bearing. You really need a reliable mechanic to check it out

The same thing happened to my 1995 1.6 A4, it ended up being the clutch, I had trouble engaging 1st 2nd and Reverse and on other days it would seem fine.
Since I have had a new clutch fitted 6months ago its been fine, I think it ended up costing around £350.
