you may remember me from such forums as tdiclub, passatworld, tyresmoke.net amongst others.
My first VAG group car was a 1998 Passat B5 estate, 1.9tdi 90bhp. I drove that for 115,000 miles and sold it in 2006 at over 202,000 miles on the clock. I learned a lot about that car and the way that things worked on it. I did things like uprated t0 PP520 injectors, reverse hammer mod, modified evry mod, MAP sensor cap and a dawes device to give me about 115-120 bhp without having had it chipped. The suspension was a bit sick when I got it, and I eventually changed them out for a heavy duty generic Monroe setup. Better load carrying capacity which was useful for carrying 4 kayaks and 4 people through France and Spain, and a lower roll rate through the corners. I changed to 15" Audi alloys, and went 20mm wider on the tires. Foglamps were retrofitted, and some subtle styling was done (eyebrows, chromed grille, aero wipers). I had pics but they went missing when my pc was nicked.
After the Passat, I got me a 2002 100bhp A4 Avant SE 1.9tdi. I had me a nice shiny comfortable car with a decent bit of poke, but as I was planning to sell that car within the year I made no modifications to the car, and it's coming up on its first service since I have had it.
I am planning on changing the Audi for a Passat. I was looking for an A6 1.9tdi, but there were no quattro models with that engine, and I don't want a v6 quattro yet.. So I am sourcing a 2003-2004 Passat Sport 4Motion estate 130bhp tdi, and I plan on making that one a fast road car with some proper engine work and the usual subtle styling. The 4motion is the important bit, after driving a chipped A4 quattro sport 130 tdi I know that 4wd is the way forward for me! Less tyre wear and better takeoff at roundabouts. The 2mpg loss and 3mph less of a top speed is not that relevant to me anyway, for the gains with the quattro sytem
I've been tinkering with the vag diesel engines for nearly 5 years now. Haven't broken one yet, and I don't plan on it either!
I recognise a few users here on this forum, and I'm not sure how this side went under my radar. Anyway, I'm here, and I'll be here for a good while too.
