B7 Paddle shift mated to 7 speed gearbox......any idea on connecting the micro switches for changes?

Hi, Can anyone offer advice????
I have a 2005 B7 Avant. Fitted with a new 7 speed gearbox and a paddle shift steering wheel. My local Audi specialist is struggling to suggest ways to connect up the paddle shift to the 7 speed box. Apparently the 6 speed box is normal, but the 7 speed is a different kettle of fish???

Its going to be tricky, paddle shifter from the steering wheel sends bus signal to the gearbox controller, I'm guessing it won't be expecting the 7th gear signal, don't even think it will be compatible with the controller. An alternative is possible by sending signals directly to the gearbox controller, similar to what rally cars do with the paddle shifters. Depends on how the interface to the gearbox is, can it accept simple signals or CAN bus signals all the way. Can or worms.
