This is an honest question, so don't jump down my throat.

In what way is an A7 not a five door A6, sitting between the A6 Saloon and A6 Avant?

I see that it is dearer than the A6, what does that extra money buy?

Timothy,
You are quite correct. The A7 could be a 5 door A6 but since the A7 came out first, I would say that the A6 is an A7 saloon. I did work what it would cost to buy an A6 with all the A7 kit on it and I got to about £3K for the A7 price. But given the good looks of the A7 and the hatch capability I would say that is £3K well spent.

So the straight answer to my question is that what you get is a bunch of things built in which are options on the A6.

That makes sense, the same is true of the A8.

Thank you!

I'd have probably said the A4 is to the A5 like the A6 is to the A7 - same frame with different styling along the hatchback lines and option levels.

The A8 is more the limousine level I'd have said with the idea being the person who owns it will be sat in the back with the Long Wheelbase version.

Sure, all I meant is that tha A8, like the A7, comes fully loaded.

Ah yep good point - can remember specc'ing an A4 and by time got the additional things as standard on the A6 on it was cheaper to get the A6.......

Quite a few models are all built on the same platform. The current Audi 'big car' platform is known as MLB - more info here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group_MLB_platform)
