I Have an Audi a4 2.0 TDI 05 plate…

I’m Not sure whether to get it remapped or to purchase a tuning box?
Which is better than other? Pros and Cons? can you do both?

Cheers

Its perhaps ( for me - just a personal thing ) but I've never been keen on tuning boxes, to be honest, not even really sure why although I have saw more than a few negative postings and maybe thats it.
Remap for me all the way.......I've had 3 or 4 now ( losr count ) and all have been spectacular in terms of performance, economy and value as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sure others will chime in and offer their experiences too to hopefully give you as rounded an opinion as possible.

Regardless of the one you opt for, a full diagnostic scan prior to fitment/remapping is important.

I'd be dubious of any remapper who didn't use a rolling road before/after with the support of diagnostic equipment to ensure your car is running as it ought to.

Get the dpf removed before remapping or you will have trouble with it!!

I tried a tuning box in an A4 TDi last year. It seemed a little more lively (it was a 90 brake)and was smokey on hard acceleration. Also it kept showing a 17970 fault quantity adjuster upper limit reached, so I got my money back. It was slightly easier to run but I didn't like have a recurring code

Good digital tuning boxes should work fine on the old 90/110Bhp engine however you would get better results by swapping the nozzles from a 110Bhp engine and upgrading the turbo to a 110/130/170Bhp one with all important VNT ! The new models have much more computing power and the idea behind a tuning box is that it will work fine on a car that has a non flasheable ECU ! I would not put a tuning box on a car that i can map trough the OBD port !!! Top tuners in Uk are Viezu, big fish tuning, AMD or Awesome GTI, from Europe i would recomend TDI Freak at Fin Turbo, Aligator at Dinosoft in Wroczlaw/Poland and a few more from Spain and Portugal. There are also few great tuners in the states and all have massive experience with old skool tuning and also modern CR/PD tdi engines !
