What's the red light on the door for.

It's probably a generic VAG question, but what does the red light on the top of the drivers door actually mean.

I assumed it was the immobiliser, but mine has stayed on and I can't find any mention of it in the manual.

If it's the small LED on the top of the door trim near the mirror, mine flashes to show when the car is locked (and alarmed?) Don't think it should be permanently lit!
