Just picked up a Passat Tdi initially for spares but considering whether to put back on the road. Apparently turbo blew and emptied car of oil before eventually stopping. The engine isn't seized and still runs freely, have removed the turbo from the car and it would appear that nothing has gone into the engine, so can't decide whether to rebuild the turbo or just strip the car. Any advice would be gratefully received.

A 98' tdi in mint condition will struggle to reach a grand, more typical examples are worth £650.
It'll cost you £350 for a rebuilt turbo, the intercooler and pipes will need to be drained and I
would recommend doing another oil and filter change in 1k miles.

There's an argument for either fixing or breaking, it all depends on the cars overall condition,
I'm guessing it's in decent nic, or you wouldn't be having second thoughts.

Would probably rebuild turbo myself if I decide to go ahead. Have done a couple before.
