Hi there,

Does anyone know how to program a remote key fob two button type.

I have aquired a replacement for a lost key fob (wife left/lost it at a swimming pool!!!)

I have a Alhambra 1.9Tdi (130) SE on a 04 plate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your keys require 2 types of programing because you have the Radio wave for door locking, and Transponder chip for immobiliser.

Two ways of programing your keys.

#1 Take vehicle to Seat & pay through the nose for them to set the remote key & immobiliser transponder.

#2 Find some nice person on the forum near you with the VAG-COM software, or other diagnostic equipment. (I use The LAUNCH X-431 diag tool because it will do what the VAG dealers can do & more!)

I hope this has been some help.

I have a key that transmits but will not operate the central locking. A VW specialist said he would reprogramme it for me but his lap top came up with the message that it was unprogrammable.

Is the spare key you are trying to program new or used?
If the key is new the cars locking module memory maybe full & will need clearing. (you will need to program all the keys you have after this)

If it's used the key will be set to another vehicle & you might not be able to clear the programmed code in the key. (Unprogramable remote)

Also before trying to programe the key, prise off the button as these have been known to get worn & end up holding both micro switches down inside the key. (The vehicle will receive a faulty signal)

If all of this fails you will have to buy a new remote key head from your local Seat dealer (OUCH £££) & have them set it up for you. :D:beerchug:

Hi Bostrom998

The key in question is the second key, and original as supplied, for the car. When you press the lock or unlock button the red LED illuminates but there is nothing happening at the car.

When you say prise up the buttons what do you mean. the buttons are like a membrane on the key, a portion that flexes to operate the lock or unlock facility. The key still works in the ignition switch and starts the car.

I am picking up bits and pieces about these cars as I go along. the forums are very interesting to the DIY type like myself.

Thanks

Ivan

Just a thought guys.

Can I get a key from say a Passat or Octavia and have it reprogrammed to use on my Alhambra? The Audi Skoda and VW keys look the same, would they be using a different programme from the Seat ones rendering them useless on one of the alternatine marks>

:o Ooops.

Sorry I mis understood your first question, I thought the second key you had was not from your car.

As the key will fit your ignition & start the car you should be able to program the key yourself:

Follow the steps below & it should program the radio remote.
(Open the drivers window before carrying out this procedure!)

#1 With the drivers door shut lean in & put the original key in the ignition.
#2 Now turn the ignition on & within 15 seconds put the second key in the drivers door lock & lock the car twice without unlocking the doors:
Door locks now in program mode.

#3 Within 15 seconds press the lock button on the remote you want to program & hold for 2 seconds then press the unlock button, you may see the red LED light up on the door trim or the hooter may chirp once, at this point if the car will take the key into its memory all the door should have unlocked.

#4 remove key from door lock & turn off ignition.
#5 test both remote keys for opperation (lock with one & unlock with other).

If this procedure failed you can try it again twice & if the car still won't take the key you may have to go to the SEAT dealer & get the key memory cleared & recoded.

I hope this works for you, I use this procedure on most of the VAG group & works every time.

Kind regards
Mark :beerchug:

did this today on 2004 alhambra

(this is in the handbook by the way)

complete the following within 1 minute!

put key in driver door lock (all windows closed)

turn to unlock position 3 times holding for approx 1/2 second each time & within 5 seconds! remove the key & observe the red led in the door flash

press & hold lock botton

whilst still pressing "lock" press & release "unlock" 3 times, the door LED & the key fob LED should now flash 5 times to indicate you were successful.

if you have another key, you must repeat from "press & hold lock button" & work fairly quickly (book says within 15 seconds for each key) if no second key then wait until door LED goes out & then try the remote key fob.

good luck & hope it works for you..

1. Put the key into the drivers door lock.
2. Turn the key to 'lock' the car and then THREE times to the 'unlock' position(the security LED in your door will glow 'constant' red)
3. WITHIN 10 SECONDS remove the key and.....
4. Press and hold the lock button on the key
5. With the lock button still held, press the unlock button on the key three times.
6. Release the lock button on the key.
7. The security LED will flash (as will the key) 10 times to let you know that the coding has been accepted.
8. JOB DONE, £120 delaer 'complex job' fee saved.

try the above see what happens.

To program the central licking function on an ebay key fob i did this:

Old working key = A
New key with non working remote function = B

1. Open car window
2. Close car door
3. Insert old key A in ignition and turn ignition to 'on'
4. Insert key B into drivers door lock and manually lock door
5. Press lock button on key B twice, pausing 1 sec between presses
6. Remove key B from lock
7. Unlock doors with key B
