I will shortly be buying a 2008 A4. It has a concert radio (the one with SD slot) with basic MMI (no button by gear stick). I would like an interface for my ipod but understand that I would have to upgrade my radio to be able to use AMI. Has anyone had this done?

Some info here which may be of use. Not cheap though!

From A8's thread

Q5 A4 2009 A5 2009
AMI CAN BUS GENERATION 3 RADIO VERSIONS CONCERT/SYMPHONY CAN SUPPORT AMI (audi music interface) as of 2009 week 22/08 part number 8K0 051 592.
Retro fit to 2008 model is not possible as the software dosnt support ami or any external music source

Couldn't keep away could you even on your 'break'? ;)

Read the whole thread!

Thanks for the info. With another inspection of the car I have found the 'media' button on the radio and an AUX connection under the arm rest. I presume that means the system is compatible with a CAN AMI retro-fit.

Got this response from Chelmsford Audi.

I have now confirmed that unfortunately Audi do not make a kit for us to fit so we at dealer cannot do this however we believe it can be done “after market”. A man we know that carrys out this sort of work is Alan Ward on 07973 241705 but you need to bear in mind he is not at Audi technician and is not actually linked to Audi (he is his own company and the warranty would lie with him).

I am happy to install it myself. My only concern would be recoding the radio if it needs to be done. I have VAGCOM (VCDS) and have use dit on my TT. Are there instruction on what needs to be done anywhere.

My next decision would be whether to go the AMI of Viseeo route. From a brief search, Viseoo seems to do everything that AMI does with the addition of bluetooth.
