Can someone advice me please - is it possible to tell whether the 120ps 1.8 TFI is visually different than the 160ps - in other words can I tell by looking at the car and not the engine?
Thanks
H
Look at the sticker on the inside cover of the manual and/or in the spare wheel well in the boot. It will list the engine output in KW.

MF.

OK thanks for that.
What KW am I looking for for the two respective engines?
Is that the 120 and 160 that is referred to as PS?
Thanks

Audi do an 1.8t and a 2.0 tdi both with 120bhp.

Wow... that sounds badly under powered. All in the name of MPG and lower CO2 I take it...

Exactly so but if I remember correctly the increase in mpg isn't that great and if mpg is the prime motivator then a diesel is a better bet.
As with all the things price is normally paramount and the 120 ps is the entry level petrol engine.

I did notice on the Audi used car search that they seem to be releasing lots of engines with downgraded power output. I saw A5s with 180 BHP 2.0T engines, that's 20 BHP less than a 2005 golf GTI. In these trying times of disgustingly offensive fuel prices and so called green road tax policies it's not surprising the manufacturers are doing this. I always think it's just a bit sad when I see a lovely looking S line Audi saloon, with 19 inch rims, body kit, superb sporty styling... a car that looks like it should go seriously fast, and then it's got a small sub 200 BHP engine inside it.

That's always been the case though. In the case of the Golf GTI didn't they do one with all the styling etc but not the engine? SE I think.
Every one does. In fact you could say the S-line is the slow version of the S4 anyway.

its exactly the same engine i believe (just down rated in the ECU for efficiency) - if you look on the super chips site they both chip to about 202bhp
