My old car now being an MOT write off, I am now on a loan car from the dealers (they are really behaving very well over this).
The loaner is an 11 reg A6 Avant S Line with a few options (Low Nav, Low Phone).
The difference between the previous version and the current one is chalk and cheese. To be honest, had I compared the 5 series, E Class and the 2011 model, I'd've gone for the Merc, whereas the new model stood head and shoulders above the others.
Some part of that might be the S Line rather than the more comfortable SE, but it's much more than that. It's all to do with apparent build quality. You get in the "old" one and it feels like a BMW - a bit plasticy but OK - whereas the new one feels really solid and "woody" (as Monty Python would have said.)
Just first impressions, but very strong first impressions.
