Hi i have a 2001 51 Seat toledo with the 110bhp diesel engine. It has done 103,000 miles. It starts perfectly from cold but as soon as it gets warm, it seems to crank for about 10 seconds before starting.
Once it starts, it runs perfectly, no erratic idle or anything similar.

I replace the glow plugs about 3 months ago and have also fitted new leak off hoses and a fuel tank pick up/ sender assembly. Also had all the fuel pipes vac tested.
I realise i am posting this in the VW forum but there are not many Seat posts on the Seat forum and obviously the Toledo is similar to the golf/ bora.

Anybody shed any light on this problem???

I had exactly the same problem on my Golf TDI 90. Once I got the MAF replaced its been fine, so its worth getting that checked. Not to mention the return of power that you forgot even existed! I was running on about 50bhp for months until got my MAF changed.

Thanks for your advice but this car goes like an absolute dingbat. Definately pulling as it should! Thanks anyway

Replace relay 109. Do a search for those posts and read thoroughly what it is and what it does.

Water temp sensor, very common failure.

I agree with col, temp sender, have you had the ecu code read, may show up something.

Thanks for all your advice. Replaced the coolant temperature sensor and it hasnt made any difference. Gonna try relay 109 next.
