I have noticed that the wipers on my Jetta sometimes shunt a few centimetres when shutting the engine down. This seems to happen every 4 or 5 shut-downs.

Also, during driving, the wipers, when at rest, randomly shunt a few centimetres.

Anyone know if this is normal, and why it happens?

This is normal.

Both my A3 and A6 do this.

I (think) its something to do with resting the wipers down then up so they dont wear as much.

Thanks Chris.

Strange feature, but as long as it's normal, I don't mind!

Mine does as well. I think maybe it's to do with using the 'Interval' wipe position which leaves the left blade a couple of centimetres higher which then later drops down - somewhat randomly...
