Anyone got a processor that is an AM3 that i could borrow or buy? I need to update the BIOS on my new motherboard. I bought a AM3+ chip and a board to go with it, that states on the webpage 'AM3+ Ready'. Get it out of the box and it says you need to update the BIOS before it will boot the CPU. So now I need an older chip in order to set it up for the new chip

So if anyone has a Athlon or Phenom that they arent using let me know!

Cheers

Rich

All sorted guys! Had to go out at get the cheapest AM3 socket i could find which was 30 quid. An AMD Sempron. Booted up straight away, flashed the BIOS, set up the RAM speed and the processor power. So i am running at a nice overclocked 3.6ghz with the potential to go to 4.5ghz! Also running it through my 40in LED tv. It is rather sweeet!

An update on this.

I have also found that the processor is underclocking itself during Prime95 stress test because the processor needs 125W and the motherboard is only giving it 95W! Which is a bit of a pain. So now i need another mobo and a watercooler for the CPU. fun fun fun!

Which motherboard were you using? I was looking to upgrade to a crossfire motherboard with AM3+ soon. It will be useful to know which one to avoid

Haven't actually got round to getting a new mobo yet, but when i do it will be one of these...

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 (http://www.ebuyer.com/271789-gigabyte-am3-amd990fx-4xddr3-raid-gbe-lan-4xusb3-0-dolby-atx-motherboard-ga-990fxa-ud3)

Or

ASUS Sabertooth 990FX (http://www.ebuyer.com/270699-asus-sabertooth-990fx-socket-am3-8-channel-audio-atx-motherboard-sabertooth-990fx)

Both are near enough the same board, same power set up and both very expandable. Personally I will be getting the Gigabyte board. They are a very well made board and have alot of power protection. Mine will be overclocked to about 4.2-4.6GHz mark. It depends if the 4.6GHz is stable. And then one of these bad boys...

Gigabyte HD 7970 (http://www.ebuyer.com/342736-gigabyte-hd-7970-oc-3gb-gddr5-dvi-hdmi-dual-mini-displayport-pci-e-gv-r797oc-3gd)

Of course, all this would be worthless without a full watercooled loop :P
