Mk2 Audi 100 Starting Problems

as the title suggests I'm having problems with my 1992 Mk2 Audi 100.

It's become a really lazy starter every time I got to start it. Also if I do a short trip, switch the ignition off, when I go to restart it just turns over and over unless I leave it a good hour or so and then it's back to lazy starting.

Any ideas please?

what engine is it ?

it's a 2.0l 5 cyl fuel inj, have been told it's possibly a bad earth
