Hi folks when looking at an A7 TDI quattro how can I tell if it is a 204 or 245 - are there any visual clues? Maybe I can tell by looking at something on the engine. Just want to be sure the car I am looking at is actually a 245

204 is 2wd, 245 is quattro.
Have a look under the body at the rear wheels and you should see a diff etc.
Or punch the reg into hpicheck.com or webuyanycar.com and it should tell you what is it

After checking, it actually is. I didn't know this.
Is the car being sold by an Audi dealer? If not, you could always ring a dealer or Customer Services and ask what specification the car has and this should include the BHP.
Another way would be to get the engine number from the seller.
The sticker in the spare wheel well will show the engine output in kw. I can't check right now what the figures would be, but there are free tools online for converting PS to KW. Make a note of the two values in kw then compare with what is printed on the sticker.
Cheers!

See below engine sodes and outputs. 150KW and 180KW. I have the CLAB engine wity the multi gearbox. Torque limited to 400NM. I think the CLAA will be the 204bhp with quatro and the CDUC will be the 245bhp quatro
Engine dataCode letters
Power outputkW at rpm
CDUC 180KW at 4000 … 4500 TorqueNm at rpm 500NM at 1500 … 3000
CLAA 150KW at 4000 …4500 450NM at1500 … 3000
CLAB 150KW 4000 … 4500 400NM at 1500 … 3000
