Hi All,

I'm hoping to start the resolution to the flickering headlight on my 56plate Audi A4 2.0Tdi thanks to the thread...

http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?113228-Flickering-Headlights/page4&highlight=xenon+bulb+change

However I'm getting confused what bulb i need to order (I just want the standard oem bulb)...my manual says H7, some posts on the forum say D1S and the HID-Direct website says H7 or D2S?????

Can someone clear this one up for me please!!! ! :confused:

Autobulbs lets you select your car and the site guarantees the bulb selected by their site is correct or they'll change it free of charge

http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/custom_mods/bulb_finder/car_bulb_master.php?bulb_search=c847

EDIT : I have an 06 plate 2.0Tfsi with Xenons and the site tells me I need D2S

Main beam will be H7 unless you have bi-xenons.

Bi-xenon=both dip and main are 1 xenon bulb with a shutter to change from 1 to other.

I have Bi-Xenons, Thats kite! Here's a link to help others...

Now the question is D1S or D2S - the link above suggests D1S, the auto bulb link says D2S but when you select a bulb like in this Philips http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/Philips-D2S-Bulb-Xenon-HID-Bulb-Philips.html?bulb_search=c847, they say check as it maybe D1S....

I would remove a bulb on your car to confirm which.

Hey Redrobbie.
I said D2S because that's what my car has.....I think. I've selected BiXenons because I'm pretty sure that's what I have.
I appreciate not all models have those lights....I should have been clearer....apologies.

No problems Darich...I'm going to remove the headlights next weekend and have a look at swapping bulbs anyway to check if it is the bulb or ballast so I'll know for sure anyway on the bulb type.

I just phoned Audi and they confirmed that for my car I need a D1S bulb. Mine has Xenon plus (Bi-Xenon?).

So swapped the bulbs....here's a good thread if anyone wants to know how...

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/391054-HID-headlight-bulbs-replacement-without-removing-the-front-bumper

The Bulb is D1S 35W E1 04J DOT - Philips XenStart

Now to see if the bulb flickering occurs on the other side or not to pinpoint fault.

My car is booked into my local indy for a service on Wednesday.....I'm going to mention that my lights flicker on an intermittent basis and see what he says. I also know I can buy a pair of bulbs for £60 or thereabouts so if he quotes an hour's time to fit new bulbs and reckons it'll cure my flicker, I think it'll be worth it paying him.

let us know how it goes and if it was just the bulb....first day with the swap done and the flickering has switched sides so looks like it was the bulb but I'll give it a week for a proper test.

Hope yours is just the bulb too rather than the ballast!

I've ordered a couple of 6000K bulbs to test them out and hopefully the flickering will have gone too :-)

I can't really help you much, i mean you have already had the answer that you don't use h7 bulbs obviously....you could try tps to get genuine bulbs or alternatively take a bulb out and read it to order the right one.

I do love the xenons on my a4, a beautiful white light they look great, no real blue tinge to them just nice and white.
