I have a O6 A3. done just over 60K miles. a couple of people have said to me about an oil change for the gear box. At what mileage should this be done, and how much am I likely to pay, as a women I tend to get ripped off. And will I need to take it to a specialist?

Hiya its about a 2hr job, most garages charge about £50 per hour plus VAT plus Parts, to do the oil change it will need gearbox filter and fresh oil (5.5 lts) can find out how much the correct oil would cost, as for a specialist, you can altho they will charge for it as its them or the dealer in there eyes, in plymouth phil davies is a good indy and you have specialist vehicles in plympton, or you need to find a local mechanic that is in to VWs and Audis who would do the job for you.........

Hi Stokie1970,

I had the DSG box oil changed on my A3 S-Line about a month or so ago...cost £63 for the DSG oil, £11.37 for the filter and 1 1/2 hours labour at £82.50 - Total cost 156.93 - Hope that helps????

Hi Stokie1970,

I had mine done at 48K as I bought the car 2nd User and although had a full service history, there was no indication that the S-Tronic g/b oil had been changed. So, just wanted to be safe and so I had it done. I think the S-Tronic g/b oil should be changed every 40K, according to the Service Handbook - these are expensive tranmissions to repair if they go wrong, therefore in my book, if is says change at 40K then thats what I'll do! Anything to keep it running smoothly....
BTW - My first A3 S-Line with an Auto too....very pleased with it also!

Hi,just spotted this post. I'm taking mine in for dsg box oil change this Thursday. Decided to use main dealer as it is such an expensive
item if things go wrong, also I did read a post that stated the oil needs to be put in at a certain temp. They are doing it for £199 so a bit
more peace of mind for about £40 seems worth it. A bonus that I didn't expect was when the young lady I spoke to,informed me there
is a recall on the model for injectors and any work would be free. Obviously, had I gone to an indy this would not have come to light.
The car by the way is a 56 Reg 2.0 TDi 170,I've had the car approx four months it's done 39,000. I had timing belt & water pump done
with an indy just after I got it,thought I would do gearbox and then set up for summer, hopefully!. John

Hi,don't know if I would get a letter as I only bought the car last October,it was a great stroke of luck that I found out about it. Normally
I would use an independent company,an excellent one locally did the cam belt approx.£100 pounds cheaper than Audi. I used Audi this time
to hopefully make any future problems easier to sort out, plus it will never need doing again in my ownership. Forgot to mention they picked
the car up this morning, big help to me as I am disabled, plus wash and valet before returning it. All told worth the extra few pounds to me.
