hello all
I have a 2 litre vento gl, 76 k on the clock. Owned it for about 6 years now with no trouble at all, until last thursday. I was driving home from work when the engine slowed right down almost to a stop, I got the revs up and it seemed ok for a further 3/4 of a mile, as I slowed down approaching lights the engine totally cut out again. I tried starting up again which it eventually did and for the rest of the journey (about a mile) it was ok .
The car was not moved then for another 2 days and i put the problem down to the amount of rain we have had recently, however on sunday I took it out and had travelled about 2 miles when the bloody thing did it again. It will turn over but the engine just wont fire up. I have had a mechanic mate look at it and he has checked all the obvious possibilities, changed the rotar arm and dissy cap. still getting no spark!!!
Has anyone got any ideas what the problem is likely to be, is there a common fault on these?

Cheers in advance

You need it read for faults, look in the vagcom sub-forum for info.

My guess would be either;

Crank position sensor

or

Fuel injection relay (the grey one)
